I don't think that it is a good idea to put up your home as collateral for a truck is a good idea. Right now there are many owner operators who are losing their trucks. If you have some extra cash it could be a good time to buy a truck, but you may make more by being a company driver right now. Rates are down and fuel is up. You need to operate a very tight ship to keep things profitable. Trucking is in for a very challenging year.

Go company. Unless you are an established O/O and have all your ducks in a row, you'll fail. There is zero margin for error in the industry right now.
I agree 99.9%.

Yea I quess right now does,nt sound like the time to buy a truck. Been reading to many post of O/Os out there that are having tough times righ now and they probably are'nt going to get much better very soon. If I decide to go back out on the road I,ll try and find a company that pays better than the ones I drove for in the past. I had to start with a small co. in order to get any OTR expereience. I had drove truck before locally ,but the larger Co. wanted the OTR under my belt before they would hire me. I got my CDL on my own and not through a school so getting my first job with a trucking company ended up being with a smaller Co.that did,nt require me to have any OTR experience. Now that I have the OTR that the larger Compnies require I have more of a choice of whom I drive for.
