Default Auto Hauling

Here is another question for the experienced driver out there? I have dealt with the car transpo, because I have heard so many bad things about the industry. My 1st question is

1.) What is the going rate for transporting cars (Per Vehicle)
2.) Where do you get the training if you don't have it?

Thanks

1}Not sure if this is true but when I was checking I heard the going rate is 50 cents on the dollar to haul cars.

2}You can check out www.unitedroad.com they train but u need 6 months experiences.

there other carriers that train also but can't remember right now

Good luck!

nsxman2001, do you happen to know how much an owner operator gets. I have heard anything from 800 to 1000 dollars per car, plus they pay on the spot.

nsxman2001 I just read your post again, so let me try this one more time, because I misunderstood you, I thought you meant 50 cents per mile, but I see that you said 50 cents on the dollars, so let me get this math right. Take a car that cost $12,999.99 sticker price right, then you divide that by $.50 (I think that is what you are saying right?)

Car rates are based upon a mileage rate. When I hauled cars rates could run from $0.22-$1/per mile per car. These rates would vary according to the type of vehicles hauled. For instance, inexpensive used auction cars would be on the lower end of the scale and specialty or collector cars would be on the upper end of the scale. As far as the average amount per car it can vary according to where it is going and how far you need to go.

You will usually need some otr experience before most of the car haulers will talk with you. Allied Systems used to have a training program. Boydstun used to have a training program. They are one of the major car hauler manufacturers. I don't know where you live, but you may want to check with some of the other car haulers to see whether they have a training program. There are quite a few across the country.
