My FSC with the fuel mileage i got, get it down to $0.35 a gallon! 8)
Of course it per loaded miles only! But even for all miles run, it's still $0.80+FSC a gallon!

That was 2 years ago, and I never heard the end of it  And I'd do it again! (This was when it was around 2.25/gal. bet a LOT of you would be changing your tune if I posted this last night lol 8)

Funny how nobody quoted my first post from this thread

Hey Solo, nice to come back to work and feel wanted, isn't it?

I tell ya Sonny, there are times when I'd be happy as hell to go back to a simple lease situation like that. No stress, a lot less work, just drive. I much prefer the simple way. Like Solo said, I hate any job, but ya gotta do what best pays the bills. Good luck.

Good luck Sonny. I agree with Merrick. Trucking is just a way to provide a living for your family. Nothing more nothing less.

Thanks
I am just finishing my application

The biggest problems I see with the reefer are:

strange but true
a lot of dry loads are actually paying more than reefer
deadheading is crazy
in July when the unit is running full force
its another $4 per hour

I just got a S plainfield, NJ to Boston and Portsmouth NH
$1350 but I have to baby the load over the weekend
good decent rate and an ltl load back paying a few hundred more
so I can go out in style
but the holiday weekend had a lot to do with the
Boston rate
thjs is the busy season
but I would never survive another winter

Sorry to hear it Sonny......

I too am parking my truck and hopping into a company truck for the time being. I can bring home about $900 week as a company driver after taxes, and all my stuff is paid for already but the house, and I will be doing the EXACT same thing as I am now, just in THEIR truck breaking THEIR stuff

If it gets any better, I might hop back in and go BBR again, but I dont think it will happen. I will just use the truck to pull the race cars to the track and do side jobs for friends most likely.

I have no idea how to be profitable for a full year
at 4 dollars a gallon
Someone sneezes in Venezuela or Nigeria and 4 dollars will be cheap
I am using the reefer for a month or so because its still cool out and the
unit does not have to work hard.
My suggestion to anyone with their own authority.
Start working on a plan "B"
It is crazy how at 4 dollars+ a stategy really meant nothing could cost you your house.
Should you take that cheap load to a better area or leave it on the dock?
It may have been a no brainer at 2 per gallon
but is it the same answer at 4.31 a gallon
factor.....??
I have no idea.
But pick the wrong strategy and you will be hurting.
Also I often hear people say the "weak or incompetant" are being weeded out.
The jury is still out on that.
I decided to find a safe haven in the storm.
I can always go back in
if it seems profitable.

right now the carrier I am with is kicking out .50 a mile for FSC. Not the best I have heard of, but a darn sight better than most.

The FSC is adjusted weekly based on 5.5mpg and base of $1.25 a gallon.

Soooo.... no need to bail out yet. If I get 6.5 mpg (which I come real close to), that means an extra $10K a year added to the net profit on average.
