DH,
While I understand your position and the situation, I cannot help but think about the different issues that come up as you state your case. First everyone complains about rolling road hazzards going down the road in the guise of being a truck. Lights that are going on and off when they hit bumps, fenders and bumpers flapping in the wind. It just amazes me that some of this stuff is on the road. But then we complain when the DOT man puts the hammer down it is unfair or unreasonable? Then we hear some here explain how to dodge that particular "point of interest" and we wonder how these rolling junk heaps continue on the road? Seems like we are taking both sides of this argument. Next put yourself in the position of the DOT man. You have to hear a thousand BS stories a day. How is he/she suppose to know your going to actually fix it or where you were going? Frankly it wouldn't take long before I would get fed up and just write it up and call it a day. Not to be a hard @ss about it, but he had you dead to rights by the book. Could he have cut you some slack? Yes, he could. You were just unlucky and happened to catch him after having listened to his share of hard luck stories and BS. I would hope that the DOT officer would choose to use his/her head and see the circumstances and that you were trying correct the situation. This would be a judgment call on his part. Just like it was a judgment call for you to continue down the road another hour and then get pulled. Maybe the lesson learned is like someone else mentioned. Get the phone number for the closest repair shop and get over there. Granted you didn't know your lights were out, but you did know there was a substantial amount of damage. You took a risk, and it didn't pay off. I hope the DA cuts you some slack and it gets sorted out. Longsnowsm

I know,
But,...what's the number 1 OOS up at a DOT inspection,......brakes out of adjustment. My truck was 100% ready to go, and in my logbook there is time flagged for a tire repair,....you can see the damage, you could see my muffler sitting on the trailer,.....it was still freakin' warm for crap's sake. My lights were out but (BTW my brake lights were working) it was only a blown fuse from the short, so I had to bypass the old supply and run it through the aux. fuse panel I installed. Sure, I know he was only doing his job,...but why be such a dick,...you could see the damage was from the tire,..everything,..and I mean everything else was in place and operational to pass a level 1 inspection. I hope the DA has more common sense than the DOT officer, this is all a huge waste of everyones time.
