Default Steel Wheel

I know this should be in the truck Maintance forum but I figure I will get better responses here. I failed to mention earlier that I found a crack in one of my drive wheels, it is alum . I bought a steel wheel to replace it until I can find a match . The cracked wheel is an odd type wheel . I believe it is a AKW brand with large oval holes on it . I took it to a truck parts place and they had never seen one like it so I went ahead and bought a steel wheel.
Is it ok or better yet legal to run a steel wheel with all others ( except the innerdrives) being alum. Thanks Darin

I don't think it will harm anything to use a steel wheel with aluminum. You see them mixed on some trucks anyway. Some have aluminum on the outside of their tandems and steel inside where it doesn't show. I do prefer my wheels matching. I am sure that you can find one that works if you check around.

Thanks G-man, I have been looking for a replacement , tried various sites , ebay, salvage truck sites ........, No luck . The steel wheel looks about like the alum , nearly the same size oval holes , so I am going to paint it silver ( it is white) until I find the correct one. I did find a site that was concerning recalls of AKW wheels made in 97 to early 98 but my wheel is stamped xx-xx-99. ( forgot month and day)

If it is being recalled and you kept the wheel, you may get it replaced.

I am afraid mine is dated ( mfg date ) after the recall ( mfg) but I could call to see for sure. Darin
