For what it's worth, most of the dump trucks and trucks for off-road use in these parts ( western & northern Canada ), are Petes, Kenworths, and to a lesser extent, Western Stars & Internationals. One does get to see some Macks, but mostly old ones. Increasingly, Volvos are beginning to make their presence felt, in heavy-duty operations ( though not so much offroad....it's just a matter of time, I'm sure ).

Who do you think owns Freightliner, Sterling, and Western Star? Diamler Chrysler, last time I checked they made cars also. If Volvo didn't buy Mack 6 years ago, Mack would have been out of business. Volvo Automobile manufacturing is owned by none other than Ford Motor Company.

We have Intertrashinals at Cardinal. Had quite a few turbo and exhaust problems with them. I dont like the clutchbrake at all. How an Eaton 10 speed can shift so much smoother in a Mercedes powered Freightliner Daycab than in these Cornbinders amazes me.

I think Volvo is on track to become the #1 truck on the road. I can remember 10 years ago when you hardly ever seen any on the road and now they have probably out sold Pete, and KW in fleet sales. I dont think anyone can argue the fact that the trucks ride like a Cadillac, and have very roomy and comfortable interiors. Most of the long hoods are gonna vanish soon, and the aero look will become the standard of all trucks. Some of my fav trucks are the long hoods, but if I were gonna be stuck out on the road for weeks at a time, I would hope that it would be in a Volvo!
