Default Take home income of o/ops

As a successful o/op, how much do you set aside, at the end of the year, for yourself ? In other words, how much money do you take out of your trucking enterprise as a return for all your efforts ( after all the regular provisions and contingency funds ), without affecting its health ? Would this amount be in addition to any salary that you pay yourself out of your business ?

A friend of mine who is an owner operator just takes a salary each week. Everything else stays in the business. I think he pays himself $800/week. It doesn't make any difference what the company makes. If things are good, then he keeps more in the business. When business is slow then he has money in his account to continue paying himself the same salary. He collects the same salary whether he takes a week off or not. It seems to work for him.

Is that 800.00 before taxes?

Not to change the subject here, but Steve, you can have my dog. 5 year old Bassett hound ( think Fred from Smokey and the Bandit).

Truth be know, my little dog is running the road with my Dad aqnd his little dog because I had to fly back to Portland. I miss her.

On a sidenote, I plan to be at a business loss this year. O/O income can vary greatly depending on your deductions, your revenue, and MOST importantly- your accountant.
