Default DOT inpection

Perhaps I did not ask this question correctly but I asked a couple of folks about getting a DOT inspection and they both said being that I am going to be an owner operator with my own authority I will do my own inspection. I think they were talking about daily pretrip and post trip inspections . I still think I need an inspection that will include a sticker , am I correct? I have had this question on the back of my mind for sometime .

go see your mechanic or dealer where you are buying your truck and they can do the DOT inspection on the truck, and yes you will get a sticker on the truck that has the date your inspection expires 1 yr later.

It depends on what state you live in also. I live in New Hampshire and we don't do the Federal DOT inspection. We have the state do the inspection which is tougher than the DOT and it has to be done twice a year.

Some truck dealers, trailer dealers and truck stops can do a DOT inspection for you. Most all TA's can do them as well as a lot of other truck stops who have a garage. Some truck mechanic shops can also do a DOT inspection.

I got truck inspected. Now , where would be a good place to put the sticker or does it matter? This truck is a 99 chev 7500 reg cab , I thought right behind the door on the lower corner of the cab . Also I noticed on the actual sticker the inspector left off the date of inspection , should I put the date on it? If so I would have to do this before I stick it on the truck being that it has a clear plastic cover that goes over it as well . Finally I weighed the truck , scaled at 22980. With a gross of 33000 on the mfg sticker does this mean I can only haul 10020? It has a wheel lift and also a air drop ( tag) axle. HELP !

I'm getting this strange feeling that maybe you've gone from A to Z and skipped a whole bunch of steps? I may be wrong. Do you have your authority, cargo ins, liability ins, BOC agent, 2290 paid, cab card, IFTA sticker and so on?

Steve, I am in the process of getting my authority. I applied online got
approval , got DOT # and Docket # got BOC agent , Insurance . Now I have to wait for the Authority to be fully in effect, then I have to go to Frankfurt KY and do all the IFTA , IRP , KYU, and other stuff. I thought that I needed to get truck inspected, should I have waited ?
