I think it took me 6 months before I didn't come home with a list as long as my arm with things to fix and replace. Some things I must have changed 3 times because I just plain didn't like them. I would lay in bed at night and look at stuff and say geez, that should be over there and this should be there. Just changing a light bulb in the dash turned out to be a major 1/2 day affair.

Your right Steve, even after all I did, now under working conditions, I have some new things I want to do.
I like:
1.Prepass is great
2.XM is great
3.GPS is fun,..but not to be trusted
4.Centramatics,.....smooooooooth as an old rig like this can be
5.Jake brake/cruise control combo,....nice to have

There are a few other thing I like but those are the tech goodies that O was lacking with Stevens,.....and now their mine,....all mine  .

Sonny,....I don't like Texas so much :? .

I. had a pretty good day today, but it started out,.....not so good.
First I spent the night sleeping next to a freakin' Rigmaster parked 3 feet from my head,..is yours loud Steve, because this one was VERY loud.
Then a guy asks me to help tow him out of some sand,..and then when I say, "I'll help you, just give me 10 minutes to stow my stuff" the needs list turned into oil,..and then when I said,.."sure I'll give you some oil" then he wanted money,.....then I said "go away,..so he goes away.
Then I start my truck,...and this is the first time in the year that I've been starting it,...the stop engine light comes on and shuts off the engine after about 30seconds of running,...so I start it again,....same thing. I tried to figure out what it could be,.....the cold? I said to myself, so I flip the block heater switch and let it run for 10 minutes,...then I start it again and all is well. My mechanics instincts tell me that the block heater had nothing to do with it, and in the morning I will find out if it repeats the procedure.
Off hand anyone had this problem with a 1995 Detroit 11.7??
Off the road I go,..but it seems like I'm going through way too much fuel,...and I spend the day driving and trying to decide what to do about a truck that only gets 750 miles out of 150 gallons of fuel (5mpg) ,...bobtailing!!!
I then filled up South of Nashville at the TA, and ended up putting in 65 gals for 750 miles (11.3mpg) now I'm happy again.
I'm going to make dinner now

Hey DH....I sure hope you get better than 5mpg bobtailing!!

I know what you mean by the truck not being ready.....we are staying on the I-5 right now and doing pretty good.

We have disaster relief stuff on for OR and WA. This is going to be an interesting trip!!

Be safe out there!!

Strike 3,..I'm out,
I'll try again later.

Tootie,
I know how you feel, I have a lot of spare parts, and tools with me for when I have a breakdown. I just got back into the truck after helping another driver repair one of his air lines. Lucky for him I brought 50' of all the airline hose sizes,....and compression fittings. I'm up one exit from an International dealer, so if this stop engine thing acts up in the A.M., I'll be giving them a call.

It really pays to be mechanically inclined when you are driving your own truck or driving for an O/O. I know Bo does something with this truck once a week or so....alot of drivers will cost you a tow bill or worse because they dont know or dont care.

If it is fixable then he fixes it. If not then he can usually limp the truck to a shop and then try to oversee the work being done.

We carry extra parts too, that really helps when you are in a pinch.

be safe
