Looks mighty fine, can't wait to see the finished product. I wouldn't stay in a truck stop over night after you get it back, somebody might scratch it. lol
We just purchased a new Ford Edge for my wife, didn't have it but for three days before some dumb*** in a parking lot opened up their door and slammed it into our door. Of course they drove off and we did not notice anything until we got home. Just be careful where you park it, people don't give a shit anymore

Luckily, I don't spend all that much time in truck stops. The places I load and deliver at allow me to spend the night in their lot. When I am at a truck stop, I'm selective about where I park.

Does anyone know what is a good price for getting polish work done? I've never paid anyone to polish the aluminum on my truck before, but I really need to have it professionally done this time. I just called a local place, and they wanted $50 an hour to do it, and were quoting about 7-8 hours to do the wheels, tanks, steps, and air tanks. $350-$400 seems excessive to me, but I honestly have no idea how much a good polishing place charges. Steve - I know you've had your aluminum polished before. Any thoughts?

I get mine done from a guy in Eloy AZ for $150 for the whole shebang. I don't think you run there much, but its a deal and 1/2. He used to be at the Flying J, but its been 6 months or more since I was in AZ.

I just got my aluminium polished up at the crossroads truck wash in West Memphis. They did a good job as far as I'm concerned. It's like $50 for 6 wheels and then $10 per side compartment door. I'm not sure what tanks are as there's side fairings on my truck. I guess if your wheels are real bad and pitted they have a machine that they put the wheel on and it sands them down and then they re-polish them. The chrome shop next door was pretty nice and stocked with lots of stuff. I had never driven past the driveway to the Petro so I didn't even know it was down there. Here's how mine turned out

Looks nice. I thought it seemed a bit expensive, but he wanted to see the truck before he gave me a legit quote. I'll probably just find a place while I'm out on the road anyway. Depends how long it takes for it to start irritating me.

I doubt I'm going to get much sleep tonight. It's gonna be a busy weekend.

When is the last time your wheels and tanks have been polished? Are they bad or in decent shape?
My son and I polish but we're not really looking for work. I have a few customers. Might be picking up another on Friday.
I just polished Koz's truck, (Greg Koz.)you must know him from Suamico.
I might be able to work something out with you.

They were polished when I bought the truck new in June of 2005. Since then, I've occasionally hand polished them, but never really went all out on them. Last winter was hard on them, and they were very spotty. The original polish was good, but not great (factory polishing).

Sorry, but I don't. Even if I did, I'm so horrible with names that I wouldn't recognize it anyway.

Fire me off a PM with more details. I might be interested in working something out.

I've had my stuff polished twice at Danny's Oasis in Phoenix. It's a big operation with about 5 bays and 10 guys.

They first wash down the parts with an aluminum cleaner real quick and wash it off. That turns your aluminum sort of white. Then they use power buffers to do everything. After that, another guy puts the finishing touches
on by hand in all the places the power buffer couldn't get to.

I had my steers, drives, tanks, air cleaners, steps, boxes and cat walk top plate done for somewhere around $300.

If you don't like the job they will stay there all day for the same price until your satisfied. They have a complete menu with prices so you know what it's going to cost. Be prepared to spend at least half the day there.

After you get that done you can let those guys in the truck stops hand polish everything for $20 bucks once in a while. They don't do the best job but they do enough so you can go out later and not break your back getting them perfect. Give the guy a gallon of water to drink also if you have one.
