Default Landstar's Savings Plus Program

Any of you running Landstar loads use their Savings Plus Program? After receiving the bills they pay your card minus 1.5%. You can also use it as a fuel card with no transaction fees at all the major truck stops that use comdata.

I have their card but use my own fuel card. I only use it for the convenience of getting paid. They have two programs. With one, you can buy fuel the other you can't. You can also use it to purchase tires and other products and receive a discount. Again, I have my own sources where I can usually do as well or better on the pricing. I think it can be a good deal if you don't have other sources for making fuel or tire purchases. I believe you can also get discounts on parts at some dealerships such as Kenworth. The down side to using the Savings Plus Card is that you cannot fund it yourself. It must be funded by Landstar. And unless there is money on the card, it doesn't do you any good. The Savings Plus is a Comdata Card.

If you'd ordinarily get paid within 30 days, it's a pretty good deal for Landstar: 1.5% per month x 12 months = 18% per year.

Sorta like using your credit card to stay in business and pay your bills.

It is a good deal for Landstar, but could be good for the carrier or owner operator, too. It isn't uncommon for companies to offer a cash discount on invoices for early payment. I have owned a couple of companies where we offered a 2% cash discount on prepaid orders or invoices paid within 10 days. You might be surprised at how many people take advantage of the discount. I don't have a problem with a 1-2% discount. Anything more and I would not do it.
