Is the volvo VED 12 engine any good?

You have to keep in mind that the D12 was designed around European trucking. European trucks are goverened anywhere between 80-90 km/h. And with fuel easily costing $5-6/gallon, fuel economy is going to be very important so the engines are going to be geared towards efficiency.

I am about to trade my '01 Volvo 660 w/ 465 HP Volvo D12 engine that has 1,066,000 miles for an '06 Volvo 780 w/ 465 HP Volvo D12 engine that has 510,000 miles, and I can report that the VED 12 engine is great!
They get great fuel economy, and are highly reliable & long lasting (when you use synthetic oil, in my case). Engine has never been rebuilt, and uses little oil still. |
