No the trailer does not get in the way.
In my picture I just "Transfered my "trailer tub" into my truck.

I, would then drive off and back into paving machine, fill the paven machine/dump, then return to trailer...back into trailer, TRANSFER tub to trailer.... make sure my tub is "securly" locked onto trailer, (hahaha), hook up and back to the gravel plant we go...its really fun, I LOVE IT!! Paving is my favorite, messy tho.....

I thought "floored" had a post on; how the TRANSFERS' transfer....maybe if she reads this she can direct you to that post. and Maybe she can also show you a picture of the NEVADA Transfers- they are wild!! A

I have 30k into my 2001 Freighliner (with 714k miles, former Beneto fuel truck), but I don't own my tubs (figure when I buy some I'll be into it as much as you are into your truck). I am leasing the set I have now from the broker, at a cost of 20% of my gross each month, which could end up being a trailer payment really easy, but my husband dosen't want me financing anything else for the truck until it is working steady or we have the truick loan paid down, so it will be a year or so until I get my very own tubs. I love my truck dearly, its a good workhorse for me, hopefully yours willbe trouble free and a good hauler for you as well.

I just did my first ever paving job, and boy was it messy! My big o'l 8 month preggy belly kept getting in the way so I'm blaming most the mess on that. It was great though, all the boys on the job site did the cleanup work on my truck, the deiseling down of the tubs and the tarping for me. Easy work though.

Anyway, Mack2 - go to my myspace page (http://myspace.com/floored1320), I have a subject in my "blog" called "Transfer Truck", it will show you how transfers work.

Let me try and get the pics off my cell phone and upload them today. It was mass sh*tty let me tell you. Normally the front wheels will run up on the tracks, but for whatever reason the back ones jumped off and over to the passenger side about a foot. It happened so fast there wasn't anything I could do to stop it. I'm not sure why, as I was on level ground.. I'm guessing the trailer was tweaked though because almost daily the wheels would try to jump the track on me and when you transfered it would teeter side to side. The new set I'm using doe snot do that, it is very steady. Anyway, I was lucky because I was at the Water district, so they had a backhoe and a chain handy to pick up the box and reset it on the rails, lost about 1.5 hrs worth of work though. Bah.

You *must* keep me updated on how it goes for you and who you end up working with, since I do plan to buy my own set in about a year. I don't know how far you are from Woodland, but Jimmy Sizemore has a good rep and a good opertion going with trucks running from the bay area to sac to clear lake. So he may be a good guy to call up to see about working as a 5%-er for.

Hey your blond now....

I added you to myspace. I dont get there very often- mostly to check on what the kids are up to.
My tubs are RELIANCE and 1997s. the truck was built for a guy as a transfer in 97.
The color of the truck is called dusty rose' with grey tubs and yes very girlie. My husband swears its red but truely doesnt want to admit- its a girls color. Its ok hun your not driven it!!

Im glad to hear the guys on the job helped you diesel down and clean for you. Its gotta be a lil difficult being pregnant and just being careful getting in and out of the rig. Yes!! what a mess paving can be, although ITS MY FAVORITE its messy.
Let me know if you need a finance company. I know a great guy who works even on sundays to get the job done. Hes awesome and they finance equipment. Buying vs leasing has its differences but the payment on this truck is bitten the bank account this month- with no work. yikes!!

ITS OK -ILL MAKE UP FOR IT RIGHT!!('')

I will keep in touch, your the only gal I know who drives transfer-

YOU KNOW BARBIE COULDN'T HANDLE IT  A

Default 10 commandments of dump truckin'

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

10 Commandments of Dump Trucks

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1.. Thou shalt not dump while on unlevel ground, for surely one day the
load will hang up on the low side and thy trailer wll fall down beside
thee. Broken oaths and sworn statements as to how many tmes thou hast
dumped in worse places will be to no purpose for thy insurance company
will forsake thee and thy future employment prospects will be much in
doubt.

2..Thou shalt line up they tractor with thy trailer before dumping lest
thou be branded as an idiot who tries to dump while jack-knifed and
condemmed to an eternity of changing tires.

3..Thou shalt be sure that thy P. T. O. and pump are not engaged while
traveling upon the highways. The view of 12 miles of power and telephone
cable draped gracefully around thy hoist is not pleasing to the
responsible authorities and the sight of thy trailer body resting ever so
gently against the top of a bridge can stir them to such great anger that
thou are compelled to dwell in their municipal motel for many days and
nights and to be deprived of feminine companionship, strong drink and
Monday night football all during that time.

4.. Thou shalt not permit another rig to dump while alongside thine, to
the left nor to the right, lest the operator be lacking in skill and upset
his trailer on top of thine. The humor of such an occurance may elicit
smiles and boistrous laughter from thy companions but will not be apparent
to thy emloyer and should only be reported to him after determining that
in neither hand does he hold a tire billy or other blunt instrument.

5.. Thou shalt be certain that hydraulic hoses are in good condition at
all times lest a worn hose blow out when thou tryest to dump a 60,000 lb
load, 30 miles from town in 15 degree weather and thou findest it
necessary to unload it with a shovel 10 lbs at a time.

6.. Thou shalt replace broken or weak springs in matched pairs. To upset a
loose load because of one bad spring whiel dumping on a level concrete pad
is an embarassment which will follow thee all the days of thy life.

7.. Thou shalt not allow rocks or any other cummodity to spill from thy
vehicle lest they bash in the windshield of the Smokey following behind
thee. A calamity of that nature may cause thee to be considered a hazard
to the motoring public and unfit to wear double clutching boots,
chaindrive wallets or other emblems of thy profession.

8.. Thou shalt not permit bulldozers or loaders to make contact with thy
vehicle, neither from the front nor from the rear, nor from either side,
for the appearance of thy vehicle will be much worse after such contact and
the rascal at the repair shop will demand cash in large quantity to
correct the damage.

9.. Thy tires shall be checked for adequate pressure daily and whacked
with a tire billy every time thou stoppest, lest thy first knowledge of a
flat is when thy C. B. comes to life with "Break, Break for Dum Dum Dump,
Thou Art on Fire."

10.. Thou shalt become wise in the nature of the commodities thou haulest.
Such as: that if a load of lime is allowed to get wet it becomes as gummy
gelatin and will stay in thy trailer forever, although a wet load of coal
will present thee no problems, except when it is very cold, when it
freezes solid as a rock. In that way, thou shalt prevent many unpleasant
surprises.

BLESSED ARE THE CAREFUL AND WISE FOR THEY GENERALLY REMAIN EMPLOYED.

armadillo, thanks for the good laugh. Perhaps you should post that in every thread that pops up about dump truckin' I know it is meant in a humorous way, but it contains all truth!

Sorry I've been "away" lately, been working my ass off all last week and training my "replacment" driver this week.

#6 - Today we learned that all my bolts that hold my hangers for the rear spring suspension were finger tight (on BOTH sides) and we have about 3 missing total. The asshats at Cooks Truck Body in Roseville didn't do a very good job of tightening those I guess after they shortened the frame and moved my axles, dosen't suprise me because they f-d my truck up when it was there and set everything in the wrong place then tried to re-charge me for their mistake.. Thank god we caught this today before we lost even more bolts say while doing 65 down the highway... Gads.

#10 - delt with that on Saturday. Hauling wet crappy sand, and boy did that gum up the front of my box real good. Pain in the butt to get it all out, let me tell ya. My liner wasn't helping any neither. Also had a battery die on me while transfering, that was also "fun".

But - I'm making GOOD $$ again (yes!), even with my employee/box lease/broker fees/ect. So I can't complain too much Soooo glad I left my old broker and went to this new place. Still have pics to share of the de-railment, need to get em off teh cell phone still so when I get time to I will. Back to running errands for me. Ya'll take care and have a good work week =)
