Landstar requires you to have a hazmat endorsement. Mercer may allow you to lease on at 23 or 24. I would think it would be the same with Jones. CRST Malone allows you to lease on at 23. All of these carriers will allow you to lease on at 23. Some carriers may bend the rules on age if you have a couple of years experience. How much driving experience to you have? What type of freight do you want to pull? Flat, van, reefer, etc.,

The percentage carriers, like Landstar, will require you to be very proactive. In other words, you will need to take the initiative. They don't have dispatchers. Some percentage carriers do have dispatchers. I don't usually recommend Landstar for a new owner operator. If you are very aggressive you could do all right with Landstar.

I have usually found plenty of Landstar drivers at any TA. They get the best deal on fuel at TA so they tend to stop there a lot. There are almost always a few hanging out in the restaurant.

Landstar flatbed owners seem to be surviving OK based on the ones I have talked to. Landstar dry van owners, in general, are struggling just like a lot of places. But if you ask enough drivers you will always find someone who is thrilled and someone who is pissed off.
