Mike, some questions.
How much of the $188,623.25 do you think is accessorial pay? What did the $14k R&M include? Out of curiosity, why don't you include the FSC you received when calculating cpm? Is it on top of the $188k gross? Appreciate the time this past year to post all your data. It's really provided a unique incite into tankers for me!

R&M,was all oil changes, truck washes plus new altenator, water pump, thermostats, batteries, new seat(gotta ride low),new steers, uprating the engine, plus mostly little things that pop up,but that was most of the big things I can think of. FSC is added into the 188k,I was just addding up all the fsc so I could deduct it from my cash outlay and see what that $ per gallon cost is.If I have it figured right it is somewhere around .96cents a gallon, but until I get home and get a trusty calculator........

Others here have more current knowledge than I.

That has to be a tough business to get into. I don't even know what type of chemicals you're hauling. I guy I went to CDL school was doing great hauling fuel for a company in Florida. I guess they were from Chicago and they couldn't cut it in Florida so they pulled out. Keenan is the big one down there and Mckenzie too I think.

I know several guys with their own authority pulling tankers here in iowa.
alcohol, gas, diesel, biod, oil in the one tank. propane and seasonally anhydrous amonia in a bottle. the big expense is the bottle and some rent those + mileage for the season. guess its hard to make a decent return on a 150k trailer unless you keep it moving, cuz they are all loose leafing it and look rode hard put away wet.

The BIG expense is the insurance, it is in the $35,000 to $45,000 range yearly, I doubt those guys have their own insurance, and if they do it isn't for hazmat. You need a 5 million dollar liability policy, NOT attainable for an individual, just call any truck insurance agency if you don't believe me. |
