I need an O/O to help me with my backing and driving skills in return for my free labor. I went to and graduated from Western Truck School Jan 11 of this year. I failed my alley doc backup skills test twice at the DMV and only have 1 more chance before I have to get a new permit. So rather than rush to try again I thought I would trade my free labor as a lumper or cleaning your trucks, or even as a backup driver for a team but probably need an owner operator as all the companies I have contacted said their insurance companies do not allow permitted drivers to drive. Since I need to get this Class A license to work to feed my family and pay my bills, I need some help fast and am willing to work free for a couple 2 or 3 weeks in trade for letting me practice backing up alley doc and parallel parking. I live just north of Sacramento, California and can work anywhere in Northern California. If you can help please respond and I will send you my resume, cover letter and clean medical and drivers license record. I am older guy at 59 Y O and have good work ethics and history. Also a Veteran. The school made no guarantees and their training is not very much so I can expect little from them. I need to move on and get this license. Thank You.

You failed the "alley docl" back up test? How did you do on the road test, cornering and such? I find it hard to believe they failed you for not getting an alley dock test perfect.

I'm headed to bed..while I am drifting off...I might think of the names of a couple local companies near you, that might be able to help you with the backing portion.

Work anywhere for the 2 weeks doing any work you can find. Take the money and pay a school to give you the hours practicing at their property in their truck. It can be done. Call around and you will find the right place to take care of you IMHO.

If you have already paid a school to teach you to drive, it seems to me as though it is their responsibility to help you pass the skills test.

Road..out in Woodland there are 3 companied that would probably hire you with your limited experience and a learner permit.

1; Pannela Trucking. Their main haul is harvest, but they also do a ton of flatbed work, hauling steel out of the Bay, back to the Valley. They have a couple local accounts there in Woodland which requires the truck to have a helper on board. Ya never know until you ask. They could well pay you a helper's wage, and teach you some driving skills along the way. They have a decent sized yard, with a dog leg in it. That would help immensely in your backing.

2; Lay Trucking. My knowledge of them is limited. I know they are also big on the harvest haul, but they do some local van work around Sacramento, and down the valley to Modesto. Again..You never know if you don't ask.

3: Is actually out in Dixon. A dump truck company. They may or may not be willing to help you out...Ya gotta ask to know though....Lowrie Trucking...Their yard is on the south side of the 80 freeway...just east of Dixon. They run Bobtail end-dumps, TT end-dumps, and TT belly-dumps.
Their main focus is road work and commercial developments, but they also service Monier Life Tile plants in Lathrop and Gilroy.

I attended RoadMaster Freight Relocation University; if you failed the exam's they would put you with an instructor, and give you some "one on one" time!!
