What does it cost you per mile to to break even?

Just curious what is cost you per mile to break even? Don't include any pay to you. How much per mile seems to be a big topic around here and maybe seeing what others costs are could help.

If you are attempting to come up with an average cost, keep in mind everyone will have a slightly different cost or expense basis. For instance, if you have a $2,000 monthly truck payment, your costs will be different than if you had a $300 payment. Where you run can also have an impact. Running in the Northeast should result in a higher cost than the Southeast. Fuel is higher and you have to pay tolls.

~.97 based on 3 trucks and 4 trailers (all paid for) doing a combined 200,000 miles/year. One truck and one trailer is fully depreciated, hence the zeros. I depreciate the trucks to a value of zero over 5 years and the trailers to zero over 10 years.
$100,000 for that T-2000 sticks out like a sore thumb. insurance 10,000+10,000+2,500)/200,000=.13/milefuel is .35-.40/mile trucks: ($0 + $100,000 + $50,000)/5years/200,000 miles/yr = $.15 trailers: ($0 + $40,000 + $25,000 + $35,000)/10 years/200,000 = $.07 mait trucks: $30,000/200,000 = $.15 mait trailers: ($3,500 X 4)/200,000= $.07 It's actually a little more than this because there are a few smaller charges that are not listed. Plates, tolls, meals (not small actually), fines, various taxes and permits etc etc etc.

I haven't a clue, as I don't calculate my costs by the mile. But, why not include pay? It is certainly a legitimate expense, as I don't do this for free. |

10,000+10,000+2,500)/200,000=.13/mile
