you will need an internet cnnection first off...either wifi if you want to only do it at a truck stop or other "hot spot" (I hate that term...reminds me too much of a dive bar I know!) or an Aircard from sprint, cingular, verizon or whoever else has them....

If you use a service like efax you can send and receive faxes with your own fax number.

If you need hardcopy of received faxes you'll need a printer

If you only send faxes of something you type up in you computer you are done...BUT, if you need to fax that paper in your hand, you will also need a scanner of some sort.

If you need a printer and a scanner, you might prefer a combination printer/scanner (takes up less space)

There are many variables to consider and the permutations are endless..but this should get you started...if you post with more details and specific questions I'm sure one of us will step up to the plate!

sorry I was not explaining better...

We will need to fax hard copies of paperwork.

When we get our own authority.....sooner than later i hope. We will need the fax for getting loads.

We have cells (sprint) bluetooth ready.

the laptop is an HP Pavilion with everything imagainable in it.

My advice (its free so its worth what you are paying for it!!!) is to get an aircard from sprint. I got one earlier this year and it worked well enough when needed. Since you are already with sprint thay might give you a sweet deal. I am with Nextel (now "partnered" with Sprint) and I got mine free with a years contract. Just about anywhere your phone works your AC will.

re: "We will need to fax hard copies of paperwork."
I also advise a combo printer scanner. You can also use it at home out of the truck and save the added expense. You will be better off with a "flatbed" type of scanner set up...those ones that suck the paper through like the old type fax machines fall down a bit with odd shapes, sizes and/or types of papers....with a flatbed you can even copy/fax out of books or other odd venues as long as it will lay down on the glass (you can even photocopy your butt just like you were at the company Xmas party!!!)

Damn, here I go again...I guess I just love flatbeds so much I even recommend them for scanners too!

We have the sprint aircard (I love it!!)

At home we have a brother printer scanner fax copier thing....It is the flatbed kind.

So how do you send a fax with this from your truck?? Dont you need a phone line?? ( I have a feeling I am having a real blond moment here!!) :?

No blonde moment.....

hook it up to your computer...sign up for efax or some equivalent service (I don't work for them or get a kickback...its just the only name I know of)....

You get a "number" to give out as your fax number...whenever you receive a fax you can view it on line and print it out if you need to.

To "send" a fax you scan in the document, go to efax, type in the fax number of the recipient, attach the document and off it goes.....just like sending and receiving e-mail.

The added benefit is, if you don't need hardcopy of your received faxes you just store them on your hard drive, or, even if you do print out a paper copy you can keep a backup copy stored digitally on your PC. As long as it doesn't take a crap (or get stolen) you have good data backup!
