I just faxed back all my paperwork for my next load. On the rate/load conformation it says COD. Does that mean the customer will be giving me a check when I deliver?

I don't think it went over to well for some reason. I did get a response from the big boss woman in charge and she pretty much said to monitor there load board which I have an account on to get loads and they will do the best they can. So, pretty much nothing will change.

They do have a pretty good setup once your in the system. You just go on the board and grab a load. They pay quick and seem to have there act together.

Well, I seemed to have timed my nap just right today. The freeway was shut down due to a fuel spill or something like that. All cleaned up now and ready to head out.


And, just to add. With my challenge for someone to come forward and get me some loads like they get, RANK wins the prize. Although I got my own, he did come through with better ones than myself!!!

COD's are a pain in the posterior...but, like many things, a necessary (albeit) evil part of the business. Make sure what kind of payment instrument your shipper wants...some will take a company check from well known long standing customers...but some require a certified or cashiers check or even money order....get the particulars B4 you go (and call the consignee to make SURE they know what is required....I can't tell you how many times I have been handed a company or even personal check and had to refuse.
..."what do you mean, money order only??"
....."I'm sorry sir, but it says on my BOL....'monet order only'...and it is also RIGHT THERE....on your paper work as well..."
......"Oh, I'm so sorry, we must have missed that....are you sure you can't take our check, just this one time???"
..."HELL NO....ahem...excuse me....no sir I'm sorry...I cannot unload until I have MONEY ORDER IN HAND....it says so right here on my instructions"......
..."Oh, alright...we'll have you a money order in 30 minutes"....


MEANWHILE.....TWO HOURS later, someone finally shows up with one!!!!

Don't let them buffalo you my friend....and remember...that shipper probably wants his MO sent next day air (along with your signed bills!)
I got to the point where I said..."OK, then you turn around and send ME MY CHECK next day the minute you get your MO, please!"

BTW Steve, if you will be in Leetsdale(I'm just south of there) and loading back out, give me a "holler"....coffee's on me!!!

and I had a pocket fisherman which lasted me for many years and I STILL have my Ginsu knives in a drawer in my camper and they will still cut a can and then slice my 'maters so thin my in-laws will never come back!!!!

Any COD I ever did was payment in full for the cost of the item including all freight costs (i.e. MY MONEY), brokerage fees (if any) or any other charges due. The shipper got their $$$ and then cut me a check.

I am a crap filter. You should have seen the ones I didn't send you. At least my $600/month load board fee is worth it.

Many LTL carriers charge a COD "fee" for collecting the money. In other words, they charge the shipper a little extra over-and-above the cost of shipping. Reason is collecting can be a major PITA. You should not be the collector for free, IMO. Maybe this time you have already "agreed" to collect since you accepted the load knowing that it's a COD delivery.

I've been with my company for 16 years and collections will be one of my main reasons for leaving.
