Secondly, the expenses are quite high. It isn't hard to have 2/3 of everything I earn go towards expenses. Thirdly, the paperwork is a HUGE hassle. Fourthly, the work is seasonal - you need to save through the good times to make it through the bad. Fifthly, the time away from home is worse - My longest trip this year was 10 weeks, and my shortest was about 3. That's why you see many HHG drivers with the large bunks. Sixthly, the HHG industry is tightening up. They just capped our FSC this year, and the discounts are driving some out of the business. Not to mention the claims - it amazes me what some people will attempt to file a claim on, and how easily the company will pay that claim without a second thought. All in all, if you have the experience, it can work, but a rookie HHG guy will get eaten up in this day and age. |
