Default Ok, here is the big question!

Ok, I am considering buying a truck. What do I need to get as far as insurance, plates and such to get going down the road?? I want to know all of it! I want to make sure I can afford to do this BEFORE I jump into it.

Depends on your carrier that you sign on. THey may prrovide insurance and/or plates, etc.

You will need-

workmans comp
collison insurance
cargo insurance (carrier might pay)
Base plates may be yours or the carriers

:P

You should get Non-Trucking Liability for when you're not under load. Just another cover your Butt insurance.

You will pay about $1800-$3000 for the year when you lease on to somebody, most of the time. That is with out plates or permits.

If you do it yourself it will about $7500-$12000, ballpark.

These figures are estimated. It will vary from carrier to carrier.

Hope this helps.

You can never "Afford" it when you start. You have to start, be wise and you will grow your money. Keep in mind. "If you want to make a Million dollars in trucking, start with 2 million dollars" Go for it!!

What you need will depend on whether you lease to a carrier or run your authority.
