an umbrella policy can be purchased from your home owner agent its pretty cheap
its kind of a back door personal liability policy
the maint by carrier is around 100 thats because around here the Detroit dealers are also Carrier dealers thus the $85 per hour + what they find wrong. "I topped the $refridgerant$ for you....."
My friend has a breakdown policy that goes by engine hours which I would prefer but I see him once in a blue moon for details.
mine goes by every 30 days
I haul frozen food 2 days a week a make a huge sigh of relief when I am empty.

Don't see where you will make any money just renting a trailer out, how much do you expect to charge? Keep in mind NO one in their right mind will pay YOU more than what they can buy one for.

And how do you expect to collect? And do you have a tractor to go and fetch it if the guy doesnt pay?

Basically it works like this. There is a company that I am working with that guys with a tractor lease onto. For whatever reason many of these people only have a tractor and need to lease their trailer. That is where I come in. The charge for the lease is 10% of gross truck revenue. I keep up the maintenance and carrry collision insurance. Many guys like this because they dont have to deal with the maintenance. At the end of the week the drivers settlement is calculated. The company automatically pulls out the trailer rent before he is paid. Basically if he wants paid he has to pay me first. It should work out to be 400-500 per week and more in the spring. I am not trying to get rich-just need some extra money and dont want all the headaches of owning a tractor as well.

Some people unfortunately dont have the credit needed to finance a new reefer unit and have an affordable payment. It is just like if you buy a house and you have terrible credit-you might get the house but you will pay hundreds of dollars more a month for it than somebody with great credit. Somebody can lease a trailer for a year-make some money and build credit and then go get their own. Lets say you finance a brand new reefer. About a thousand a month or so-then you go out and blow two tires in month-now that trailer cost you 1600 for the month assuming nothing else went wrong with it.
