Default Grocery Warehouses

I've never been to any to deliver loads but some people have said that they are all crap-holes...will take forever to get unloaded, even if you have an appointment time and they are just and all around pain in the rear.. is that true?

The particular warehouse in question is in Elloree SC but any info on how it is unloading at any of them will be appreciated

I have heard that, but,Ive never pulled reefers OTR. I have the last 3 years, but locally. It seems like, all reefers are floor stacked, because almost everytime I pick up a backhaul at SYSCO Dallas, the OTR drivers are always having to fork out money for lumpers. Either that,or the warehouse guys arent using their pallet jacks to unload the trucks.

Actually the problem at most Sysco houses is they want it stacked on their pallets and usually 48 to the pallet. Secondly....Sysco usually wants you to use a lumper that is why you see what you see...not all houses.

OTR reefers aren't stacked on the floor, air has to circulate or you will have other issues.

As far as taking forever to deliver....be on time not usually a major problem it's when you're late their will be issues.

If I get burnt, oh well. But if it works out, hooray!!

Will post after I run one to see how it works out, or just how big of a nightmare it can be! lol

Only going by my own experience with Grocery whse's. The ones I went to always seemed to be in the worst areas of the Towns-Many require a Lumper(Extortion) and my appointments always seemed to be at O Dark 30.
There are exceptions though.
Don't know anything about the whse you're talking about though.

I pulled reefers for six months when I first started driving. It took me that long to discover that pulling reefers was not for me. The receivers were jerks. You would get loaded 8 hours late. In the meantime, your delivery appointment would stay the same. You would have to drive all night to make your appointment. Then they would say "Put your CB on channel 5 and we will call you when your door is ready." You ask them if they can knock on your truck so you can go to sleep. "We cannot do that." I am parked 200 freaking ft from your guard shack! My customers now are really glad to see me. Especially when I am delivering their new toy!

I would not want to deal with these grocery warehouse people. I had enough of them when I pulled a van. Most of the time, especially when I am delivering to a construction site, the receivers are glad to see me. Like Jroqueman, when I pulled cars, I don't recall a single customer who wasn't glad to see me when I showed up. It is great when the receiver is glad to see you. These grocery warehouse people should be glad to see you with the scams the run with their employee lumpers.

Its not only reefers that go into these warehouses...I went into them with a dry van....and most of them you do use lumpers...the thing I find funny is at Wal-mart grocety warehouses, they rquire you use their lumpers, but at their dry good warehouses, the dock workers are Wal-mart employees...
