Nope. I've been trying to find Ridgerunner. Anybody seen/heard from him?

Trying to think of the exit.... Gimme a minute and it'll come to me..... RINGGOLD ! ! ! ! That was it... Ringgold, exit 345 (I believe), and it should be just north of the Chicken Coup. There are two truck stops there, and while he said he can be found at the one on the right (when you get off the exit), I believe I saw him at the other one (closer to the highway). Hope that helps you, Darlin'

I didn't remember that as being a "Kangaroo". I thought it was something else. I used to stop in there every Christmas Season to get my dose of EGG-NOG. He had once said that he spend free time there. But, I also stopped at Cochran's a lot, and I believe I saw him there once as well. That was back in the days when I was driving my own truck. I could fuel where ever I wanted, and Pilot was just not it. As a matter of fact, if it didn't have parking and a real restaurant, I didn't like to stop, much less do anything else. But, about the time I was going to retire, he said that was his hangout.

Cochran's has been there for many years. The Kangaroo was just built a few years ago. Cochran's tore down the main building of the old truck stop. They did keep the restaurant and made it into a storage building which is now separate from the main part of the truck stop. They still have a full service restaurant, but it is much smaller than the old restaurant. I miss the old building. They also cut out one of their service bays. They had two before remodeling. Now, they have 2 service bays. It is still owned by the same family. Perhaps it is nostalgia, but I still like to stop. A number of years ago there was a truck stop in Chattanooga. It was called Johnson's. They had an 18 wheeler that was made into a large billboard with working headlights. It closed many years ago and Covenant purchased the property. It served as their corporate offices until they moved to their current facility. |
