10-4 GMAN.............I took a little more than a 50% cut in pat when I went to work for Swift and was happy. The pay sucked, but the insurance was needed.
But the company I worked for prior to Swift was not a trucking company and I new I had to start from scratch.

I think that it is important to remain flexible when one is in this type of economy. Sometimes you need to take a step back to take two forward. I believe there are many who are making major career changes due to our economy. We all need to earn a living. When one is in a career field that is laying of or has limited opportunities he requires that we adapt to get along.

Well Dave, You know that's what happens when you tell your boss he's a dumb ass, and you tell his & your Ex-boss how much the later has cut the freight rates on the loads that he ( the later ) stole from the ex ex boss, so much so that now the ex ex boss laughs because no one can afford to pull them for that little thus can't afford to steal them back. How's the new Gig? Got your compressor on?

Taking a pay cut in a down economy is one thing.
Making the same rates/wages you did 10 years ago is quite another. But that's trucking. It's what you make of it. Part of the job. Sunsets and rainbows.

Well, it wasn't a very professional response. When discussing any business opportunity you don't "Lol" at someone. Like jd said, a simple "no thank you" would have been more appropriate.

I do think that Kevins response was a little cavalier but the recruiters reply was way out of line. Calling anyone much less a potential employee "junior" was bush-league. This is standard operating procedure for far too many large companies and JB in particular. Promise a bunch of stuff but when push comes to shove they always have some reason why they can't do it. Maybe in his unhappy world there are not local drivers but he must have missed out on the very large day-cab fleet that JB itself owns let alone many other carriers. These jobs are not easy to get into and usually to involve putting in some time otr but the company should tell you that up front not say "we have dedicated positions" to lure you in.
If you have read previous posts on JB, including mine, posters have commented on the dedicated promises that disappear. Several went through orientation at this carrier the same time I had my unhappy go-around and were told at the end of the week that the dedicated they were promised was filled up but they could go otr instead and "wait" or find their own way home. At least this jacka** told you up front you were not going to get it and saved you a trip and wasted time. .31 seems pretty low. I think I started at .40 with them but I have experience. Still, the money was not worth it. My final go around ended with my supervisor telling me he would black ball me and send the cops out to look for me if I didnt have the truck back to them that day. This behavior seems typical of this company. the office people treat the drivers with contempt and seem happy in their jobs, the drivers in several of the terminals I went into were not happy at all and the company didnt care. Also, GMAN is right. Pay is not everything. I took a 5/mile cut to do what I am now but I'm home 5-6 nights a week and my 2 days off are the same every week. I'm much happier at this than I was with either JB or Roehl. I can not recommend this company to anyone. Last edited by jonp; 12-16-2009 at 11:55 AM. |
