Default Looking to re-enter trucking field

Hello all: I have been out of the trucking industry for several years and am looking for an OTR company that will provide me an opportunity to refresh my skills. I am a reliable hard working man who will greatly benefit any company willing to give me a chance. I am located in Maryland. My past experiences included tanker, flatbed 48' and 53' dry vans, reefers and 20' and 40' containers. Other than a speeding ticket in May of this year my class "A" license is squeeky clean. I've driven all 48 states and Canada. I currently do NOT have my Hazmat endorsement but willing to pursue it. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Do like I did, go to a smaller company in your area who does OTR. Or, go do a refresher course at a CDL school and use their placement services. Basically like starting over from ground zero, but it's a start.

Swift, Werner, CR England, FFE, Stevens and many other large, well-equipped carriers will hire you on as long as you're record's clean enough.

I normally suggest companies like these if you just want to concentrate on driving and not have to worry about getting ran illegally or some troubling thing like that.

Smaller companies that do OTR(like the poster above suggested) are okay, but make sure you speak with the drivers there first to get a taste of how they are run.

If you have kept your CDL it will be much easier to get you covered with the insurance company. How fast you were going when you received the ticket will determine how easy you can get on with a carrier. Some smaller carriers may give you a chance if you have kept your CDL current and have a good background, providing only a couple of years or so have passed since you drove a truck. As far as insurance companies are concerned, they usually base their decisions on how long you have had your CDL and your MVR. Other than that it is a decision that each carrier makes for themselves. None will hire someone whom they cannot insure.

going with a larger company is also a benifet because with the economy, those large companies are looking for ways to get rid of those "higher pay" drivers, and replace them with newbies. Not to mention larger companies would be better to go with because they can weather the economy storm much better.

Well, anyone can stay with any company for as long as they want provided that ducks are kept in a row and such.
As far as choosing between a bigger or smaller company, it could be correlated to having the choice of either taking the Cadillac home, or the mystery box with the ? mark.
