Cold Feet/Don't Want To Make A Move I'll Regret!!

Well folks i got a Job offer from a Small Trucking Company (150 Trucks) to run true OTR... Pays .36 a mile avg 2500 miles a week or more with decent equipment.. either an Late Model Volvo/KW/or 09 Pete (which i would love but doubt i get)... but here's where it gets Interesting.. They will try to have you home on the weekends at least for an 34 hr restart and if you don't make it home on the weekend you'll take your 34 on the road and take it get more hometime the following weekend... And another thing is i have to take an hour and 45 min drive to the terminal.. **** thats 3 hours already taken off your 34...
The thing is i want to leave Schneider so bad but i don't know if i want to take the jump.. I am home quite often but this Slip Seating thing is just horrible!! and also there is alot of politics outside of driving a truck that goes on in this place.. So if you was single/young/ambitious what would you guys do??

I would have some money set aside ,3-6 months of expenses, in case something doesn't work out.Leaving a job right now is kind of risky, cause you don't know what is going on on the other side.
Do your homework, don't rush and try to talk to drivers from that company. They can promise a lot,but that doesn't mean it can be reality for you to soon.Best of luck!!!

I'd make the jump. The grass may be greener. I've jumped from a agent to agent in the United system and found a good fit.

Your single? Who cares about hometime. Will they give you the option of taking the truck home? I had a "local" gig once and had a hour drive each way and was home every night, that killed. I say bank up some hometime if they give you that option that's what I usually do like if you run 4 weeks they give you 4-5 days at home etc.

In this economy, i'd stay put. Think of what company will do better in the long run....a small one or a big one (for the most part). The grass MAY be greener on the other side....till you get there. But then again, trucking companies always tell you up front exactly what to expect. "home every weekend, 2500-3000 miles a week, no touch freight"....yeah....forgot....there hasn't ever been one company to ever fib toward its drivers.
be my guest....jump ship....then when ma and pa trucking folds by the end of the year (maybe) and you can't get back on with Schneider because you have a bad habbit of getting all butt-hurt with shippers, forgetting you've got a 53' trailer behind you and blowing up a trailer rim/tire....don't come cryin' to this board.

He isn't violating any rules by having it there. If you don't want someone to discuss (or make fun) of something you say, then you shouldn't say it. Believe me, I know how irritating it is to have your name used in a sig line - I've had it done several times (the most recent being golfhobo). But it isn't violating the rules. I suggest you ask him to remove it yourself. If he refuses, that's his prerogative. I've asked others to remove my name from their sig line (prior to being an admin) and have found good results from doing so.

excerpt:
Tucked inside the fund is a slug of distressed debt. Jensen thinks the debt of companies on the verge of or in bankruptcy can produce returns similar to those for stocks, but with less risk than stocks. If a bond's issuer goes into bankruptcy, the debt is usually converted into stock. As of April 30, Third Avenue had about 5% of its assets in distressed debt, including MBIA, a bond insurer; W&T Offshore, an energy producer; and trucker Swift Transportation.

Just a guess here Kevin, but I think you are the one guy who always got picked last for any group activity. Now that you are an adult (well at least in physical size) you try to make up for all the times as a child you were left out... Timberwolf

 See.....You read one thread, where Kev makes a valid and reasonable statement. Then you change threads....and see that Kev goes and makes a total butt-head of himself.
Go figure! :moon:
