A real SWIFT move.....

......oh yeah, i was at a Swift terminal, so i should have figured as much. HAHAHA.
I was headed over to the shop while at a swift terminal in Ohio, and as i was getting turned around, and started backing up (with trailer) into a parking spot, a swift bobtail decided to speed behind me between the row of parked trailers and me. Lucky i saw him in time, and was able to stop. But once i got parked, i walked over to his truck, and said, "...hey for future refrence, you see someone backing up, DON'T drive behind them while they're backing. If i hit you, the accident is on ME." And in his broken english he learned in Niger or Somalia, i could barely make out "okay" and "i saw you". I left it at that, but wanted to say, "well if you saw me, why in F would you drive behind me??!??!?" Do that at a truck stop, and you would have the wrath of whoever was backing all up in your face. Heck, even the guy at the fuel island facing me, even shruged his shoulders and shook his head.

i've had similar experiences at Werner terminals when I drove for them. And a few customer locations.

I had a group of mexicans in a lawn care truck do that to me. Luckily they had a trailer behind them and I saw it out my left mirror. I had looked over to my right mirror and that's when he slid in behind me, as I came back to my left mirror I saw the trailer that wasn't there moments before. Turns out he was trying to park between me backing in to park and a curb, he got all mad when I told him to move the truck so I could park but he moved when I told him I was going to call the police on him(yes I was bluffing but he thought I was serious.)

OK so as long as we're telling stories.
![]() I backed to within 4 feet of a pup in the dock that I was planning to hook. I stopped and left the truck running. Pups have a nose bar to prevent them from tipping if a forklift with a heavy skid drove all the way up to the nose and I have to raise this nose bar before I can back under the trailer. On the passenger side is a contractors pickup truck who is repairing a bad dock plate. After I raise the nose bar I go up the stairs to the dock to close the trailer door. The stairs are on my drivers side. While I'm on the dock the contractor who was also on the dock goes outside and I'm walking behind him. He goes down the steps and walks in between my running tractor and the front of the trailer to get to his pickup. I followed him and pointed out that unless he was looking to get cut in half he may not want to do that again. He was a little shook up when he realized what I meant. DOH!

Glad he didn't hit you.
I had someone talk to me on the radio the other night. I couldn't understand one word he said. It wasn't a spanish accent. I have no idea what it was. It was nothing but jibberish. I speak jibberish myself, being from Texas, but I couldn't figure out for the life of me what he said.

It's definitely not a Swift only move... A lot of yard jockey's could care less that you're backing into a tight hole. I've had them come flying behind me too many times to count. Same goes for truckstops. Every color truck, every race, every creed. I think they teach you in school now to drive behind a truck backing up.
