how does one secure their load in a trailer like this? run chains/straps under the curtain? ( click on link below to see)

Some trailers like that have short chains that come up from the floor. I dont see any of those on this trailer. You will know them when you see them, They look like a round piece of steel about 2-3" across. You pick then up and the chain is connect to the bottom of it. There is a space between the side of the trailer and the curtain that the straps slide through.

 

ok i know what your talking about. i guess since they (the mfg) out them on there they are just as secure as the "conventional" method? are trailers like this one common on the road of flatbed driving?

 

I started to reply to this, then realized I could be wrong. A Chameleon system must be different than a regular curtain van where the straps come out under the curtain, and you just pull the curtain over them.

Next time I see one I'll look or ask.

I do know some places don't like them because you only get a 96" load width. The rolling system uses about 3" on each side.

 

Them trailers have tracks that run the length of the trailer that have J-hooks you put in them for your chains. The straps usually just slid up the inside of the railing.

 

zoomed in on floor shot didn`t see any slots for j hooks, looks like only securing devices are straps from outside under roll kit. To much money for restricted option on securement

I pulled one of these for a while. Actually if you look again at the pctures I believe it does have the chain pull ups on it. When you strap you run your straps between the rub rails and the body of the bed. On a 102 trailer you still have room to load 96 wide freight. These trailers if I remember correctly are wider than 102 on the outside once you get the roll tarp system on them. I pulled a covered wagon and one of these. For the steel we were hauling, once you know the system a covered wagon can be opened and shut pretty quick also. But the roll tarp trailers are a nice system.

 

You see more owner operator with them the company trucks. Alot of the steel delivery companies use them. They are nice. We have a couple in the fleet. You just have to make sure the freight isnt hanging over one side or the other or you might not get the curtain closed. Also you have to make sure the curtain isnt too loose or too tight.
