Ok first dumb question: What were you doing on the west side of Ottumwa? You went through 7 stop lights to get to Target.

Second dumb question: Don't tell me you took 34 west to 5 north? If you did you went through 3 more stop lights then a 4 way stop in Albia and 3 more stop lights in Albia. Then went through a small town with 30mph speed limit. Then went up and down some hills with tight corners that you navigate at about 45mph.

I assume you came in on 34 from the east (4 lane) You should of taken 163 north off 34 on the east side of Ottumwa. Same exit where you turned left to stay on 34, turn right and 163 north is brand new 4 lane to Oskaloosa (No Stop Lights) at Oskaloosa take 92 west 25 miles to Knoxville. 92 is about half 4 lane to Knoxville. If you would of went this way 40 of the 50 miles would of been 4 lane with no slowing down.

By the time you got to Target with all the stoplights and 45mph speed limit you could of almost been to your destination.

You could of called me I live 20 miles from there and we could of got the load there on time. I was even home last week too LOL

 

well thanx for nothing. =) the plan was to take 34 to 163/63 north then to knoxville on 5. that was the fuel route anyways, and think that was the way my GPS was telling me to go. And from the time i pulled off the 34, and made my way around to Target, it only took about 15 minutes. still would have left me 30 min. short...but i guess had i kept going till i was totally out of time, and seeing how i would have been that close to the drop, i probably would have said 'screw it' and head for the customer.

guess next time, if i am 40-50 mi away from my final, and within 15-30 min on my clock, i'll just push on to the final, and hope i dont get pulled over. =)

 

Well for future reference remember 163 north on the east side of Ottumwa.

When you turned left at the stop sign off the 4 lane and wound down behind the stinky pig plant and through all the stop lights it took longer than 15 minutes.

Your fuel route and GPS won't know about it because it is all brand new and was just opened a couple months ago. It's part of the Avenue of Saints. (St Paul MN to St Louis Mo)

It's all new 4 lane from Burlington to Des Moines.

Might want to let your DM know that 163 north is open and they can route trucks going north towards Des Moines and save a lot of time.

 

if it wasnt 15 minutes, it was a tad longer, but wasnt no 20 or 30 min. i took the off ramp, turned left, went under a bridge (I think) then curved around to the right, went by the cargill plant, then took the road right that went by that 'round-a-bout'....honestly, the time i spent taking the off ramp to the time i parked at target, wouldnt have got me to knoxville.

 

haha, Tuesday morning I started off in Eloy, AZ at 11am, I arrived in Austin, TX at 4am wednesday morning after doing 970 miles. I did a 650 mile stretch of that without stopping at ALL. As a matter of fact, I only stopped twice that entire run, first time in a rest area to go to the bathroom and eat a quick microwaved snack, the second time at a truck stop for a quick burger, drink, and bathroom. Both times I stopped it was only for 5 and 10 minutes respectively. Was this legal? Hell no, but can an 11 hour straight drive be done? YES not to mention I have gone across IL and OH and PA legally in an 11 hr period, granted I did 60mph in IL and OH, but they don't bother you for doing 60mph, not to mention that the speedo in your swift truck is not accurate to begin with, if it says 62 you are really doing 59 to 60. If you don't believe me, use a gps that shows the speed, this goes for ALL vehicles in america of any kind from a VW beatle to a 379 with a 700hp cat motor. GPS Speed is just as accurate as police radar gun, and it isn't purposely toned down to show you going a few mph faster then you really are. Case in point, my truck is governed at 70, however keepin it floored I am only doing 66.9 to 67.3 mph, this is confirmed by multible gps recievers, and radar gun signs.

So considering that only newbies and those afraid (for no reason) actually do 55mph in those states. I have gone 65mph in ohio and PASSED a state trooper and he never pulled me over.

 

hmmm...u just said you didnt stop at all, then you said you stopped twice. i bet you were well rested too, and had no sign of fatigue. i've done 9 hrs straight no stopping, NONE. what would another 2 hrs be in 5 hours. and my spedo in my Volvo is accurate, acutally it is a mile per hour show. When i'm running 62 off my speedo, i'm actually doing 63. How do i know? because my GPS tells me so. I would trust a sat. gps with my position triangulated off 3-5 different sats. than a spedo cable.

tell me, why are you always trying to bust my azz? you think i am impressed about your remarkable feat that i am sure nobody else has ever done before. If you want, i can go back to pull my logs of all the days i drove 10.75 and 11hrs in a 'day'. I'm sure you're not the only one.

ooooooh you passed a trooper speeding....what a big man you are. let me buy you a pack of gum and ill show you how to chew it. go right ahead and pass a trooper speeding .... its 50/50 whether you pass one who is in a bad mood or not. you pass one going 58, he can pull you over. You'll have more speeding tickets and be put OOS more often than i will be by years end.

 

Uhm no, I said I did 970 miles, stopping only twice, 650 of those miles straight without stopping at all, take the time and read it. I had 4 hours of sleep prior to doing this run, before that I had been up about 18 hours, I took a 2 hour nap this morning while waiting on the consignee to open, been up since. So I slept a total of 2 hours in the last 34 hours. Believe it or not, I actually wasn't that tired during the run, not sure why usually when I drive at night I am fighting to stay awake. I guess I built myself up to just git er done. No I am not trying to impress anyone, and normally I would not of done this, nor would I advocate it. I do try to follow HOS atleast most of the time. Yes I know that trooper COULD of got me, but he didn't, and I didn't purposely pass him, he was on the other side of a big truck, so I was passing both of them and didn't see the bear until I was already passing him.

And I am not busting your ass in any way, you just want to take it like that, I am only stating that 660 miles in an 11 hour day no matter where in the country you are is completely possible. and NO a bear cannot pull you over for doing a 58 in a 55. They give you by default a 5 mph leeway, if you are cruisin steady at 60 then I would say yeah, but 58, no. But the reality is 99.9% of the time you can do 62mph across ohio and no one will bother you. For the record I have a perfectly clean MVR with the exception of 1 accident and a ticket associated with that accident, which never even made it to my mvr for some reason, maybe VA never reported it cause I paid the ticket right away, I don't know. In 9 years of driving since I was 18, I have NEVER even been pulled over.

660 in 11 hours is possible, you're right. BUT that is if you dont slow down or stop. if i set my cruise at 62, and its all interstate, and i never ever stop for 11 hours (which is just dumb) thats 682. you stop for longer than 30 minues in 11 hours, you wont make your 660. i've only went 9 hrs straight once. but never again, because of how tired you would end up getting.

ive gone 1100 miles in 20 hours driving before....so what. it was 95% interstate, and half of it was at night with hardly any traffic. so what.....

and is there a law saying 'no LEO can pull you over for going 2-5 over posted speed limit'?? If so, i'd like to see it. The posted speed limit is the law. if you are going 61 in a 60, a LEO has every right to pull you over. If you are parked in a no parking zone, a LEO has every right to give you a ticket. whats next....you going to tell me you get the benifit of the doubt because you have more lugnuts than a trooper?

and at what point are you going to go back and read the post where i said i made an error when i figured how long i had been driving? think i said sometime last week, had i only taken a 2hr nap not a 3, i'd have made it.

And if you stop for 30 minutes it makes no difference, you got 14 hours to do that 11 hours, after doing a 15 min pti, you got 13.75 hours to do that 11, that gives you 3 hours and 45 minutes of time you can stop.
