Hi everyone.
I really wanted to know if there are any truck drivers out there that take their child/children with them. I am thinking about doing team driving with a friend of mine but I have a child and he is 13 months old. I don`t want to leave my child at home and would like to take him with us. I `ve heard of people that have done this and I just wanted to know if It`s a good idea or a bad one. Please leave some feedback. I really need it.

I do not think the road is for children. They need to be home, in daycare, in school, or in the park on a swing.

They need to go to bed at night in their own room with their parents reading to them.

They need to be given a fair chance to grow up in an environment that will be comfortable and relaxed.

The road is for work. Home is for family.

I took my girls with me once each. And that was so they could see dad at work, and the thrill of the big trucks on the road. Both times it was no more than a day trip. Call it Working With Dad Day.

It's a VERY bad idea. When I can extract myself from the hole I just punched in my roof, I will try to CALMLY explain why. That will most likely be next weekend!

You should have your child REMOVED from your custody if you do it!

Living in a truck is no way for a child to be raised!:thumbsdown:

 

Extremely BAD idea.....besides, I doubt you would be able to obtain insurance as most I believe require the passenger to be at least 8yo

I chimed in on the post about having dogs on the truck. Some dont think the truck is the place for a dog, etc. I ran into a shipper finally, who had i their 'yard rules' about not accepting a driver with a dog in the truck. (exactly what are you to do if you do, and they refuse you?) They also have a rule about no one under the age of 18 allowed on property.

I think it is borderline to allow a dog or any pet on the truck. NOW, i would hope that you think the life of an infant has higher standards than a DOG. Bad idea? no.......i think it is STUPID!! I totally agree with a previous post about if one does, they should have the child removed from their custody.

I use to work at a truck stop. I remember we had this hurd of a family come in and buying loads of crap to shove into their faces. The driver (male) his wife/girlfriend carring an infant, and two other kids, who were not more than 10 or 11. And after I waited on them, i watched them ALL get into ONE truck. where does the wife/infant sit? is the upper bunk in use when the truck is moving??

 

Kids need to be able to move and to play. If you have the kid in the truck he will be stuck in a car seat for up to 22 hours a days, and please do not come back and tell me that you will let the kid roam in the sleeper while the truck is moving. Not only is that dangerous but it is also highly illegal as every child under a certain age must be in an approved car or booster seat while the vehicle is in motion. Also keeping a kid cooped up will slow his physical and mental development considerably. How would you like to be the parent of a 5 year old who is on par with an 18 month-2 year old.

Young children also have a lower tolerance to pollutants. The can get respritory infections, develop asthma and many other complications due to breathing in various gasses which adults do not have to worry about or worry about as much.

I won't even go into how much sleep you and your co-driver would loose as you try to see to what needs you can for the child while the other is driving or the problems you can run into at various warehouses and factories or the fact that the vast majority of trucking companies out there have age limits for passengers and many of them also won't allow passengers on a team truck.

I have nothing against taking an older child, lets say 7 and up (if allowed by the company), out for a week or two when they are not in school, but that is a far cry from raising a child in a truck.

 

I would say don't even think about it at all. When they are older and out of school on break or something, then you can take them with you for a few days or so but thats about it. The road is no place for a child. NO WAY.
