Blizzard conditions now. 30 vehicle pileup on I-94 near Benton Harbor, numerous semis involved, some counties have given up and pulled thier plows off the road. More snow on the way. Don't take up a load up here.

I think Detroit needs to take a lesson from Chicago in how to plow flippin' roads. I left Chicago on a run to Livonia, MI and back. Load had to deliver by 8p. I turn off 275 at exit 167, and see traffic backed up almost half way up the ramp. Roads were actaully pretty good shape till i got to Michigan. then they started going to hell. The closer i got to Detroit, the worse and worse they got. You'd be in the far right lane, then there would be an exit, and then your lane would be gone....covered in snow gone. but they plowed one lane in the middle.
anyways, i turn left up 8 mile rd, and see a trucker with his 4 ways on. Figure he got into a fender bender with another car. while i am inching closer, i see 2 city plows go by, not plowing, but just salting. Dont know what they were salting. They must have thought salt would help get rid of those foot deep ruts in the snow they didnt bother to plow earlier in the day. I get closer to the truck, and notice another plow in front of him. He dumped a small pike of salt in front of teh truck driver. Then i notice he has a shovel out, and is scooping loads of salt around his tires. He sees me coming, and splashes some salt in my lane. i get right next to him, he gets in, and takes off. Then guess what. THEN I GET STUCK. I start going, then start spinning my wheels. I know someone is behind me, so i dont roll back but a foot. I get away with this a few times, then finally i get out, look to see how much room i got, and motion for the driver of the 4-wheeler to stay put and not get right up behind me. I'm not going anywhere. so i call 911 to maybe get a officer out there to direct loaded trucks from not going up that road till it is plowed. I rocked back and forth enough times to get moved over to the left side of the road where the snow had not ever been driven on, and i get enough traction to get moving. NOW, i have all the azz whipes who were behind me, now making a lane around me on my right. I finally get enough momentum, that i was nosing my way back into my line. What a joke those streets were. It was almost as if their city budget dictated how many passes they could make on certian streets, and what streets to just not do. 8-mile was one street that needed to be done, and it was never touched. i live in iowa most my life, i can tell when a street gets plowed or not. Needless to say, i am glad i did not stop for a 30 min lunch break anywhere or i would have been late to the final. And remember, i turned off the interstate, with about a mile left to travel, and it took me over a half hour.

8 Mile! You must have been in hooker alley and probably moving car parts. Lots of murders down that strip too. Eminem made that stretch famous.
Reason they don't plow that road is the truck would get jacked. :eek2:

That's like South Dakota. They get so much snow, they have lakes every where. No where for the snow to run, after it melts.
The gravel roads are just as bad. I remember hauling wheat up there in the late summer. I remember the county was always grading the gravel roads. After a while of all the hopper bottoms running up and down those roads, the soft spots would start appearing.

The sad part is that MI roads are bad in the summer too. Face it, MI roads suck 100% of the time.
