and actually your statment is wrong. the simple fact that the fmcsa can regulate how many hours you can drive without a break and the given hours there are in a day, by default they are regulating how many hours you can drive in a day. (obviously all driving is in reference to a laden or unladen cmv not used for personal conveyance)
can you drive 24 hours of the day? no. reason? FMCSA regulations make it impossible to do so. therefore while they do not exactly stipulate how many hours you may drive in one day, it is those very regulations that dictate you may not drive more than X amount in one day.
