So I was in an accident in September 2007 prior to getting my CDL (I just got my CDL this May). It was my fault. I side swiped a car when I was attempting to change lanes. The accident isn't showing up on my DMV report, though. A buddy of mine is a cop, and even though a police report was filed, I'm wondering if he did "something" so that the DMV wasn't notified. Not sure how that works or if that's even possible. But anyway - it's not on my record at this point.
If asked, should I not bother to put this accident on job applications since it's not showing up on my record?

If they check your motor vehicle records during the hiring process
and it does not appear then I doubt they will ask you to produce documents and police reports as to the accident you are saying you had. It would make no sense. http://www.dmv.org/driving-records.php But then again what if it did appear at a later time then u could get in trouble and dismissed for false application.

And to the original poster, Pepsi doesn't mess around, either. If you've got an app in with them, you better come clean with them and keep everything on the up and up.

Whether or not it shows up on your DMV record will depend on your state. Some states list all accidents while others only show traffic convictions.
Your DMV record is not the only thing that some companies check though when doing their background checks. Some companies, and/or their insurance carriers, will run your info through an insurance database to see if you have been involved in any traffic accidents.

:?: CDLIS and PDPS Checks (49 CFR 383.73 and 23 CFR 1327.5) I'm not sure if companies like Roehl or Schneider will even consider me. |
