Default How to get a dump truck driving job?

I'm trying hard to find one in the Stl/Mo area, Seems they all want experience driving one, even with a year OTR experience driving a Semi isn't good enough?

Been out of work for months, this is killing me!

Well....driving a semi-tractor/trailer combination is quite a bit different from driving a dump truck...as easy as it is to flip a dry van turning corners wrong, it is even easier to flip a dump truck...just by raising the bed wrong.

In your area...Beelmans is the largest Dump-truck operation. Try finding a farm operation that is hiring. Your not going to make near as much as you would at Beelman...but you will get the required experience. Working for a farmer...you can also grab room and board as part of the compensation package.

http://www.beelman.com Like orangetxguy said Beelman is the largest dump and dry bulk carrier here in the East STL/STL area. I see them all the time loading up with coal in Hartford. I believe they take the coal from Hartford and take it to I think Effingham but not sure on that.

beelman requires 2 years otr experience. I have only 1 year.

I'm more or less looking for a job driving a Tri-Axle Dump Truck one that would be hauling materials to a job site and maybe using a back hoe or skid steer, those jobs are typically 40 hours a week. I found one that would be perfect for me, Drs Excavation in Granite City, IL which is where I live, They aren't hiring just yet however.

Why limit yourself, I just started a job driving belly dumps, I make more per week than OTR, home every day by 6, weekends off and get paid by the hour. You might also try calling or just hanging out at a gravel pit and see who shows up for a load, many pits have their own crew as well.
Years ago I drove for a one man excavating company hauling rock to his yard from the pit, he just needed a sober driver who wouldn’t damage his truck.
Call them all.

I wouldn't call it an offer but I may have a job driving a rolloff trash truck when I turn 18 in July. But I'm looking at other options that involve a tractor trailer to where I can get home everynight and looking for something that has a co-op program so I can go to school from 8am-11am then work from noon-whenever since next year is my last year of high school. It's aggravating but at the sametime it's fun trying to find companies that will give me a chance!

If you can relocate to the Carlinville, IL area (hour north of St. louis) I guarantee you that Curry will take you. www.thecurrycompanies.com

They will train you to operate an end dump. They don't pay by the hour though. They pay 27% of what the load brings. $100 a day while with trainer.

Just got word a friend of mine who is an O/O. Well he filled up his tanks and parked for the weekend and went back on monday to find his tanks were bone dry! I can't believe truckers are resorting to stealing from other truckers!.

What makes you think they have any more class than what they show on the cb?
