If it were real you would be able to see the contrast in the colors and numbers on the windshield, reflecting the windshields shape. I find it suspect though the numbers and information on the left has a different transparency than the map in the center of the picture.

Volvo has been testing a HUD for several years! they had a demo truck last year at GATS with it! The contrast you speak up does not do as you say, since the windshield is specially treated to display the HUD.
As far as the chips on the dash, they would not be in the way of the projector, as the one that I saw comes from the visor area!
