Why would you take 81? The quickest way is to take I-70 to I-76 in PA, then get on I-80 and take that right to San Francisco. You didn't specify where in MD you were coming from, but from Baltimore to San Francisco is about 2800 miles. There's no roads that you will have any issues with as far as elevation. I believe the highest point on an Interstate in Colorado is Vail Pass, which is about 11,500 feet. But, you shouldn't even be entering Colorado on a trip from MD to SF.

you will be driving through some mountainous areas. there is no "around & around", but yes, there is some "up & down".

you'll be fine. interstates are designed for the least common denominator among drivers for the most part. just read the signs, maintain control of your vehicle and for the love of pete, stay to the right if you don't feel comfortable driving the speed limit. there's nothing to be worried about. have fun!

Your in a camry. Not a truck. Not a whole lot to worry about.

Good luck.
