Yes you are right, I was not in any agreement with them, I was just stating the danger over the CB to see what the response would be, he totally read my post there wrong. I edited the post to add an extra line to make it more clear what I was trying to say.

No, Matt. I didn't get it wrong. Your intention was to say that everybody on the road felt that 70 miles an hour was safe under those conditions and that everything that you had been told here was wrong. By "agreeing" with you, that ONE person was, in effect with most of the opinions expressed here. While the other 99 would have followed you in to the back of that other truck on I-64. Thus you and the other 99 are correct. Wasn't that the point of the post to begin with? What was the point then?
Partially, yes my intention was to show that there are a lot of idiots on the road, and indeed those idiots would have infact followed me into that truck, actually they would of hit me before I hit that truck seeing how even I slowed down to 50ish. Ultimately I guess my point here was that there are a lot of idiots out there and I dont feel quite so bad knowing I am not always the only idiot But the key difference, is I am fairly unexperienced, these are guys out there doing 70mph with years of experience! Which really shows how stupid they are, and I told them so, which was not taken well, I am in full agreement with what was expressed here in this post, not with those idiots out there, now when I hit weather I slow my ass down considerably and even count my following distance, which I did in the snow the other night, turned out for a 10 second following distance I had to slow down to 45 mph, and that is what I did, even with other trucks flying by me at 70+ mph blowing there air horns at me or staying stupid comments on the radio, I kept my 10 sec following distance. And honestly I feel you owe me an apology for what you said in that other post, because you flat out said that you take it I am in alignment with those other idiots, and even in this post you still stand by what you said, so either you really dont understand what I was saying or just flat out think I am an idiot regardless of what I say.

Idiots amuse me so I probably have the CB on more than most . I hope you've figured out by now that the very small percentage of truckers offering their "experienced" opinions on the CB are the last folks you should be listening to ? BTW at 50mph it takes close to 100 feet before you can even get on the brakes when you see something ! You are going 73 feet per second and the best of us take 3/4 of a second to get to the brakes and the truck takes a quarter second or more to start to get air to all the brakes - maybe a second or more to get the trailer brakes fully on?

Yeah I was thinking about that, I was going 50 and the person I hit was going 35, so the difference was only 15 mph, so that does add to the stopping distance allowed in this instance, but it was still too fast anyway, so that is beside the point

Swift wont hire him until he drives 6 months more safe.
Also because of the following too close ticket, that is condidered a serious moving violation. Which is also going to hurt him pretty bad for the next 3 years.
He needs to do what ever he can to keep that ticket off his record.
With just the accident and no tickets, I could probably get him on celedon.

Good point. These guys are on the Sirius channel every week and I think they are as good as it gets? http://www.driverslegalplan.com/
It is too late to sign up with them for the $3 a week but I think they are about $500 to try to fight or bargain down your ticket? They have a pretty good success rate I hear. Whatever you do - don't just pay the ticket!

Matcat: I am very sorry to hear this, but several of us "perfect drivers" (as someone called us) DID warn you that it might happen!

This industry (ruled by the insurance companies) is BRUTAL!! NEW drivers barely GET a chance to LEARN to become GOOD drivers! I, for one, felt that YOU had learned your lesson and were NOT defending your "newbie" actions! I understood your post about the guys in the trucktstop telling you what THEY would have done..... but did you notice that THEY were all "shut down" in that truckstop WITH you??

I hope you stick around and keep reading this thread, as I have MUCH to say about the posts since I was here last. IF you get to keep driving, you may learn something from it all. Skywalker was right on the money! And I will EXPLAIN for you (and others) what I meant about understanding terrain and weather. But, that will come as I have time.

I can't help you much with the Denver area, OR PA! But, I will say that I work for a small company that "takes chances" on drivers.... WHEN they can! I am currently trying to make a driver out of an ex-Swiftie who had a rollover in his first month Solo!! I don't think he will EVER be a truck driver, and he SCARES me! [but he IS working.]

But, I think I read you right, and I would be PROUD to team with you and help you if I had the chance! I doubt that NC is an option for you, but if so.... the offer STANDS! (as long as you will LISTEN to me. )

If not.... and you STILL want to drive a truck..... I hope you GET another chance! But, if you do.... PLEASE stick around and learn MORE from those of us who have something constructive to offer.

LIVES are at stake.... and NOW you understand that.... your JOB is at stake.

All the TOYS and TOOLS you had don't make a driver better. INSTINCT does! Moreso even than EXPERIENCE! As you've noted, there are MANY drivers out there with more years and miles than me. And many of them are just full of hot air and LUCK! (referring to the BBR's on the radio... and NOT to those on this board!)

Again, I'm SORRY things turned out the way they did. I wish you the best, and will HELP if I can.

Hobo
