Default Sysco Food Dist

My brother in-law really laid out some facts and told me the truth (much of it is what I have read on this board), while everyone may not agree with him, he advised me to go to restaurants and find out who are the local truck companies that deliver and try to get a job with them and fully avoid the CPM OTR trucking all together.

1. Hourly, plus anything over forty, Time and a Half

2. Paid Holidays

3. Full benefits

4. Home every night!

5. 45,000 first year potential.

Furthermore, he said I could have a really good chance of getting hired because I have a clean DAC and BMV report with no convictions of any kind period!!!!! The school recruiter said I was very rare in this industry and would have a really good chance of getting a good job because of my record.

Please advise me if he is wrong

Sysco, US Foods and many other companies that do the same type of work want 2 years driving experience. Believe me, after you run a 2wheeler up and down a ramp all day, your knees feel it. I worked for PFD for 3.5 yrs and US Foods for another year.

Default So my chances are grim

Well, I am not sure about sysco, but I will look into it and other companies, never know what might happen. I am looking at TMC,and a few other flat bed and refrigerated companies for OTR if nothing comes out of this!

Default What are the chances of me getting a job with them for OTR

I live really close to Indianapolis, I called them and they said they are not hiring Drivers. Is there an amount of time one must drive before they will even look at you? It is not that I am not willing to pay my dues, as I know I must, I'm just looking at companies my sisters husband said I should try. Who do I call? Are there any contacts I could get that could help me meet with a Sysco rep / recruiter or driver in my area? I worked in the food industry as a understudy to a chef, but the place I worked at closed down. I am really familiar with the food industry and would like to head in that direction if I could as a driver.

Jim

Sysco is local and pays good but it's back-breaking work. You see those guys huffing and puffing handcarts up and down ramps like the little train that couldn't. Peddling the goods to restaurants is tricky...some of those chefs are real ball-busters. And don't even thinnk about delivering during lunch...they won't even look at you.

15 hour days are not uncommon. Once you move up in the ranks and bid on a nice sweet area it isn't so bad. You can even run linehaul where you just pull a set of pups at night.

See if you can get on with a local LTL carrier doing P&D...much easier work where you mostly just bump docks and the pay is on par with Sysco. There's other good-payin' local work too...Colts Fan just hired on at a good outfit and he lives near you...I'd hit him up with a PM.
