A lot of those spare-tire racks are measured so that the corner of the trailer will not hit them when you turn a corner, but put anything next to it and you have JUNK left. Check your clearance before you do put it there. Turn the tractor so that the corner of the trailer is in the middle of the catwalk and see what kind of room you have.
I thought the guy that hung it on the inside of the cab extender was ingenious, myself. Not a bad idea. Cleared everything, including the reefer unit.
