Also, STAY AWAY FROM RAPID REFUND!!!!!!!! Those are nothing but a money maker for the tax places. You will lose more then HALF of your refund. I did that ONCE, only once! I wait for the IRS to send me my money(takes about two weeks, get my taxes done in feb. right after I get my W2)
We haven't used H&R Block in years. Our taxes were to involved for them to handle. I do think in most cases by people that have a simple returns the tax programs (many of which are free) will work just fine. Most people find out the standard deductions will be better than doing the long form. As an example since I retired and we sold all our businesses last year we ended up using the 1040-ez even with my high medical bills.

I couldn't agree more Double R RAPID REFUND are nothing more than a high interest short term loan. Might as well go to a payday loan shark the rate will be about the same.

As far as when to file it depends on if you are getting a refund or if you owe taxes. Over the years we have tried to owe the IRS a couple of hundred dollars so we file just before the due date.
