I've flipped many a U-turn ...And thought about on roads like this many times after missing a turn ,but roads like this only have abouit half the room to do a U-turn ,and require you to use the shoulder which is usually soft and poses the potential for giving out and rolling the truck ...not to mention if you get stuck you are sitting across 2 lanes of traffic , And if you need a tow truck you just got fired if your working for Werner ...If I were this guy I would be calling a wrecker ,and paying for it on my own dime ,because if he call Road Break down he's getting cnned ,and this will go on his DAC .

I dont think you will be able to cover this up by calling your own wrecker to fix this problem. You call a wrecker on your own will create a paper trail the same as if Werner had to wrecker dispatched. This isnt gettin covered up. Along with the wrecker would be Local Law or Troopers to direct the safety of traffic during the extrication. Now explain it to Werner, why they found out about the incident/accident after you took it upon yourself to "hire" your own wrecker. The least of this drivers problems is his employment. Its a good thing it didnt cause an accident involving others. Then he would be facing more serious issues than finding other employment.[/quote]

Hate to tell you Drew ,but if you pay straight cash the wrecker driver isn't going to tell Werner that you were attemtpting a U-turn ,And it will just be said to have been a simple pull of a vehicle stuck in soft sand off the highway in a pull off  Second werner is not going to find out about the incident ,as the matter will be between the wrecker service and the party being or paying the bill ,So unless it was a wrecked or damaged truck ,which that's impossible to keep from Werner then it would not be an icident filed with DOT or the DMV or law enforcement ...Werner would never know it happened ...And you would be stupid to tell them  As far as company policy imanu of the policies have come about ,because of not so bright moves such as this , because in reality there are plenty of places a U-turn can done safely this not being one of them . Company policy is one of those things that is enforced when it benefits the company to adhere to it's written policy ,and forget the handbook when it serves them best ... Oh ,and I sense one of those superior attitudes of a person who most likely claims to never deviate from company policy or do things that ,well are just plain stupid ...It's been my observation that those that sing this tune are usually breaking company policy ,and making stupid mistakes just as much as or if not more than those they would snitch on to management if given the chance to ...For example I rember this Werner driver ,and his wife had passed me while I was parked off to the side of the road in a golf course driveway ...I had to pee just couldn't wait any longer ...Well 20 minutes down the road We both pull into the same cons Square-d Mechanics burg PA ...well I backed my truck very easily, However he with a foot ballas field worth of room had to drive up and onto the customwers freshly cut grassy hill by about 10-15 ft leaving 10 inch deep tire marks ...all this and he still rubbed the dropped trailer on his passenger side ...Well I went over to conversate with him while getting unloaded ,and he had scrates all over the hub and dirt ,and remarks ,how someone must have "HIT HIM" ...Man I just saw him do his 4x4 action on the hill ...But I'm not a doucebag , So it's not like I was on the qualcom with tractoer/trailer number recording the incident...Well .5 hr after he leaves I get a message about another driver spotting me parked on the shoulder,Which I was not it was a larhe drive way ,and I was about 30-ft from the road ...however this is the only driver that passed me that morning on that road ...This is common of those that profess to be company pets ,and strictly adhere to company policy...When in reality are usually worse off than those they snitch on .

Haven't heard about most major carriers, but I do know that Roehl has no tolerance for that kind of crap either.
I agree, there are many circumstances where it is safe to u-turn, but one mistake could easily mean someone's life. And, I guess at the end of the day, the guy who signs my paycheck tells me not to do one...I just won't do one... IMHO pulling a u-turn when you know it may get you fired is downright stupid, and if cought, deserves what he gets |
