Default TMC question

Anybody work/worked for TMC here?
Just want to find out about them I will be getting my CDL myself in a private school so I won;t have to do it for a company school,I'm 44 will that be a factor in hiring,but I'm in excellent health I'm a construction worker and used to working so that's why wouldn't mind flatbedding.

Oh,and is flatbedding more money than vans?

Yes, you can get your CDL yourself, but you will have to do it through a school. There are several good schools, but many more that are not. You can contact TMC to find out which schools are approved, just to make sure there are no issues with the training.

As far a flatbedding more money than vans? Well, that all depends on who you ask, and what their frame of mind is. Flatbedding to me is a little more enjoyable and much less headache than most van frieght. With a flat, the majority of the time you show up with a load, they are waiting for it and ready to get it off your back. Occassionally you have wait times loading, but from my experience, was nowhere near as bad as pulling a reefer. Lanes can also be better also. Another thing with flats, you will definitely get accustomed to runnin' the back roads, of the main veins per se! I love seeing the old towns and places time has basically forgot.

TMC is probably the best Flatbed Training Fleet out there, at least in my opinion. There are others, just do your research carefully, and most of all, ASK Questions, and get the answers! IF you have to call back twice, and talk to two different people, get the answers.

And yes, TMC recruiters, like any company's sometimes have a tendency to bend the facts. But last I heard, they were working to bring them back in line. I had heard of two that were fired for not being truthful during phone interviews, one was my original recruiter. But again, that goes on at all the big fleets. Just ask the questions, to try and not be so suprised when ya get to DM.

TMC was my first driving company 2 years ago. I drove for them for about a year. They are a good solid company they have never lied to me, and gave me options on the loads to take. They have a good trainning program. Driver have the option of getting paid by percentage or miles. I got paid by percentage. I roughly brought home 800. to 1000.
a week after taxes, i was claiming 3.

TMC is a good starting company you are home every friday 98% of the time. benefits are good blue cross, also other benefits.

Tarping sucks, when i was there they only paied 10.00 for tarping.
very few delays or waiting around for a load.

you will spend 2 weeks in iowa for training. if your in shape and have speed you should'nt have a problem. I have known guys that have gotten canned because they were not what the company was looking for.


ask your recruiter as many questions as possible, they are preety good.


i left TMC because i have a family and it can get pretty difficult. but if i was single i would go back to TMC in a heart beat.

Today, im hauling gas tanker and with a teamsters union. TMC helped me get this job because they do have a good reputation.

Scania,I worked for TMC.I was 47 years old.I obtained my cdl on my own.Went to a local driving school.If you have good character,good work history,and good health, you should have no problem.Great company.I wont ever forget the two weeks in Des Moines.

Are you kidding me asking this question??? With 102 posts, one would think you would KNOW this board is TMC heavy!
Part of my question I couldn't find a good answer for after I did a search for TMC.

I am older than you, I was older than you when I was hired by TMC. I do not see it as a problem provided you pass the DOT physical. I am a driver and do not work in the recruiting department nor am I on the Hiring Comittee, so I don't know what their exact thinking is on older drivers. I have absolutly no problems with the physical aspect of the job. In fact it is not even close to the hardest job I have ever had. I will admit that tarping in inclement weather, especially the wind is challenging.

This is a trick question. Generally speaking, yes. Though there are many execeptions to the rule. Flatbedding is the first segment in trucking to slow down during the Winter, and one of the first to pick up again. With a recession looming on the horizon, or I should say, peoples perception, of a recession looming, flatbedding, which hauls for the construction/manufacturing segment will be impacted more than other types of trucking jobs.
