Default Surprises on the road?

I am getting a used digital camera from my buddy today. I was dissapointed when I came out of the sleeper the other day and a big "Puff the Magic Dragon" (carnival ride) was staring me down. Backed in right in front of me and perfectly level to my line of sight. It was quite a surprise to me. So I want a camera to document that kind of stuff. It got me to wodering what all of you have been "surprised by" when first getting up and parting the curtains. Or any other one of those, "man I wish I had a camera" moments you have encountered on the road.

I was parked at a Pilot my very last week with Barr-Nunn. i was nosed into my space facing the trees in the back of the parking lot. I am just chilling listening to the radio and reading and eating and i look out and see this tree moving way up at the top and there were about 10 racoons at once up in that tree swinging around on the top branches eating some kinf of stuff that was growing on the tree. It looked so funny seeing those things swinging around on those top skinny branches. One even came over towards my truck and i made pretty good friends with it feeding it peanutbutter crackers....I wish i had a camera for that...all sorts of stuff to see out there if you keep your eyes open whether it be something funny like that Puff The Magic Dragon ride or something cool in nature that you wouldnt normally see at a truck stop. A camera is a cool thing to take with you.

Few weeks ago, saw a man in a motorized wheelchair going across 8 lanes of highway. 4 lanes on the one side had to slap on their brakes. He was going away from a retirement home, might have been trying to escape.........had a big goofy smile on his face and kept looking back.

I spent the night in a rest stop in Iowa and was awakened by a terriable screaming right outside my truck. In my sleep fogged brain my first thought was that someone was trying to kill a woman beside my truck. I grabbed my knife and looked out but it was a load of pigs parked beside me. I guess they wernt happy about prospect of being breakfast.

I once seen a Swift truck back into a parking spot and not take off anyone's hood. :P :P

As far a weird goes, the only time I really wished I had a camera was when I was driving. I kept seeing what looked like a big pink elephant traveling down the road.

I was really tired so I thought my eyes and mind might have been playing tricks on me.

Turns out I was right. I was not a big pink elephant. It was a big pink elephant with purple polka dots.

I take a lot of pictures on the road of random stuff. We went out and bought a Cannon Power Shot to replace our Toshiba that quit working. I take pictures of trucks parked leaning at massive angles or parked partially in deep ditches, wrecked trucks (got some good ones of a trailer that split in half that was at the TA in Kenly, NC, yesterday being offloaded), and things like my dog looking out the window at a dog in the truck parked next to us. Just stuff to look back on some day when I'm not on the road any more.

I should post them, you know. I'm just too lazy to upload them anywhere and put them up. Maybe I'll do it later today- but probably not.

I just don't seem to have time for all that.

I was awoken one thanksgiving night to my truck shaking. I open my curtains and all I saw out of the front windows was "SWIFT"...

The Driver's Wife was really Hot, She was a great looking lady.

One night I had been listening to a talk show about Sasquatch on my Sirius radio. I pulled into a pickle park for the night, locked the truck up tight, drew the cab curtains and went to sleep. About 3 am I awoke to the truck rocking and the sound of snorting, stomping and loud grunting. Scared 1/2 out of my mind, knowing that Sasquatch had me I opened the curtains. What I saw wasn't Sasquatch at all but high wind that had came up rocking the truck and a bull hauler parked next to me.

Never listened to that show again!

I actually saw an elephant walking down Hwy 12 West of Mpls MN one morning, it turns out the truck it was being hauled in broke down, so the handler decided to walk the beast to a local school yard for safe keeping.

Default that reminds me...

The elephant sighting reminded me of when my dad retired from the army and bought a dump truck, to haul asphalt with a friend of his. I was riding with him outside Springfield, Mo and he hit an Ostrich or I guess it hit us. It lived but had to be put down. The insurance man on the phone was having a hard time believing what my dad was trying to tell him.
