The DOT physical consists of useless tests , conducted by overpaid and underqualified individuals who have discovered that adminstering tests consisting of bending your elbow, someone screaming into your ear "can your hear me?", taking the whiz quiz and asking if you know how to blink your eyes.

If anyone fails the DOT physical its because they are dead.

Check in the phone book for walk in clinics that deal with "Occupational Health"...call and see if they do DOT Physicals. Some will just see if you can find the place, breathe, and sign your name. They will fill out the paperwork and hand you a med card.

Others will do a thorough and honest physical evaluation, then if you pass, you will get your medical card.

Generic comments not applicable to anyone specific:

Do not get loaded on anything for a while before the test. Don't eat a bunch of candy...it will possibly give a bad reading on the blood sugar test that will indicate that you are diabetic. Drugs....if you use them....forget it. They will be detected. Alcohol....abstain the night before. Alcoholic beverages can also upset blood sugar.

The place I went to was pretty thorough. They didn't check for a hernia though, so no turning and coughing.

The problem I had was that they didn't know how to check blood pressure. Many don't calibrate their equipment like they should. I had to spend $90 at my family doctor to get my blood pressure taken. What do you know, my BP was normal at my family doc. I had to take a note from my doc to the occupational health place and I finally got my 2 year card.

I had a random a couple weeks ago. My mom has been a nurse for about 40 years. Her doctor's office is in the same building where we get our drug tests, and stuff. After my physical, I went upstairs to see her. The doctor that she works for is a hoot! You wouldnt know that he was a doctor, if you didnt know him. He's just a country boy. I told mom what I was doing, and her doctor said, "Why the hell do they do that? That's just dumb. Like that proves anything. You could take a bull in there, and do the same tests, and pass."
