I have always given a two week notice. Well, except once, but that guy was a Jackoff. Anyways, a few times I have gotten screwed around for those two weeks, to the point making no money and getting an attitude from management. I would say use your gut feeling when it comes time to leave, and if they start screwing with you, don't stick around. I see it as what goes around comes around.

I agree with PTD.... depending on your relationship, if you have one, with your fleet manager, handle it accordingly.
Frankly.... in the past, I never gave two weeks notice. Simply because, in general I wasn't leaving because I was tickled pink with the company. In every case....I had somewhere else to be, and was going to be there when I intended to be there. In general....if a company is going to "fire you", they aren't going to be nice about it....nor are they all that likely to get you to a terminal closest to your home. In the cases where I was just taking some extended time off, with every intention of returning.... I did not burn any bridges, I let my plans be known, and they worked with me on that. Parting under good circumstances is a good thing....but when there is little else besides animosity in the air, its pointless to take the high road. If "managers" were all that concerned about fallout....they would bend over backwards to make sure drivers didn't get pissed off and quit. Its that simple. Its like the bible says: You reap what you sow. A company, its managers, its dispatchers....if they treat drivers badly, then they have absolutely no, I repeat ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT TO HAVE EXPECTATIONS THAT THEY WILL GET BETTER THAN THEY GIVE!! Sorry if that rankles anyone...but my resume includes a good number of years in corporate management and business ownership.... 8)
