My mother is getting married November 27th, 1 day before my birthday, by then I will be training on the road, so I am probably not going to make it to her wedding
But I have to do what I have to do.

Keep us informed as to how your training goes for you. I am thinking of going to the Swift Academy here in San Antonio where I live. I am very interested in your opinion of the quality of training you receive there. I have read as many threads as I can, and do have some concerns. Also, any thoughts on how much money a person should take with them to go to a school "out of state" for living expenses during training, and the first couple of weeks with your trainer? Good luck!!

Well they RECOMMEND $150, as it will be about 1 month before your first paycheck, but it would probably be safer to bring a little more than that. I am going down with about $100, but I am also bringing a months worth of smokes, and SOME food, so it will offset my costs.
Here is the info for that school: http://www.swifttruckingjobs.com/doc...%20Antonio.pdf As far as the training goes, I will keep that posted in my blog, and really, I think how well you learn is up to you, the #1 best school in the world isn't going to teach you well if you aren't willing to learn it, and the worst school in the world could teach you well if you are willing to do so. The key to this, and this goes for anything, is ask millions of questions :P, if you don't understand something, ask for it to be explained, don't be afraid to ask, why, how come, how, when, where, etc.

Yeah its the month of damn cigarettes that adds up! LOL. Need to quit those things! But only $150.00? Thats only $5.00 a day. (They say the same amount here also.) I do agree about putting forth the effort, and having a proper attitude. Found your blog page. Good luck.

As fat as cigs go, I buy a 1lb bag of tobacco (Here in PA its $10, Virginia ts probably a LOT cheaper, hehe), and I buy cigarette tubes (They look just like a regular cig, with a filter and all), and I use a machine to inject the tobacco into the tubes. a Box of 200 tubes goes for about $1 to $4, so one box of tubes = 1 carton, and a 1lb bag, depending on how you roll, will last anywhere from 400 to 600 cigarettes. All in all I spend about $20 a month for a months worth of smokes, and I easily smoke a pack + a day.
