Is there good $$$ in driving a dump truck?
Is there pretty good money in driving a dumptruck for an asphalt company or a construction company? I know it wouldn't be quite as much as an OTR job, but I think in most cases I'd be home every day (even though I'd be late and have to leave early the next morning). :?:

in my experience, its pretty good money in the summer and you starve in the winter. our company has dumps and tankers, I drive a dump in the summer and a tanker in the winter.

try mining companies, paying $22.00 + bonus and up. And lots of PAID benefits.

Keep your eye open for a union dump truck job, that's where the money is.
And that's where the benefits are too.

Try to find a company that pays by the hour, as opposed to paying by the load. OT is a good thing.

Pay can vary quite a bit from company to company, around here atleast. Around here seems like most people start out on the low side 14 to 15/hr. if you don't have any experience, but can go up relatively quick depending on how the company gives raises.
But like Fredog said, depending on where you live, business might stop completely during the winter months. It's a good idea to try to get something else lined up for the winter. For me, if i have to go on unemployment it usually doesn't even pay half of what i could be making if i was working.

Would anyone know if it's pretty good in SOUTH GEORGIA? I know of a few companies, but I don't know how good they are. I also don't know how I'd find out if they pay by the hour or not, or if they're in the union.

In the Chicago area, Teamster semi dump drivers make $30+ per hour plus benefits.

Damn, I'm lucky to get $14 an hour around here. Seems the same job in up in Indy usually pays $2-3/hr more with almost the same cost of living.
