Default Home time

Hello all, Just curious is all OTR companies hometimes the same... Example like me I get home 2000 Friday. And have to leave out 2000 Sunday. I stay out 2 weeks at a time, and only get 48 hrs off duty. I use to get away with staying home till Monday morning. But anymore I cannot, I would love to have 2 days off that don't include the day I already worked. I have been at this about 18 months, and just drives me crazy that I cannot stay home till Monday morning.

ask your fleet manager but when i was with a big OTR company i would get 2 full, complete days home.

example i get home 2000 Friday and have Sat/Sun off and back on the road Monday AM (early 0400)

again, COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY. you dont know if you dont ask....

if you have been with that company for a long time they will usually give you more flexibility than a rookie....

Yeah I have been here at swift for 18 months. And seems like the longer I stay the worse they are treating me. I got away with more when I was a rookie lol for some reason.... Now I get home at like 2000, stay up for awhile. Go to bed have saturday, have to stay up as late as possible. So I can sleep all day sunday to be ready to go to work after dinner. That is why im getting cranky on this. Because with this way I only have really saturday to get everything done that needs done. Because I have to sleep most of the day Sunday to get to work sunday evening. Like today I got done at 2100. Have a load I have to deliver to Seaford, DE at 0630 on monday morning and it is about 800 miles. So guess im going to leave tomarrow night... Blah just venting!

if it was me, i'd vent me frustrations to your manager.

dont make demands just ask them kindly and if they still dont respond get progressively stern.

Simple answer to the question is a simple no. They're not all the same.

The bottom line, though is that the smaller the territory you cover, the more you will be home. If you want to be home a lot, you need to tighten up your operating radius by going with a regional or local carrier, or getting on a dedicated run.

Yeah I just started my Haz-Mat process. Just have to wait for my letter now. Just did the fingerprinting yesterday. Then going to try to find something better to at least get home every weekend. I like OTR but also like to be home a few days here and there not just there day and a half crap they want. It use to be alot better, but now im under the fleet manager and she does not seem like she wants drivers to go home. And well I might not have much of a life  But I still like to get home lol. I explained to her yesterday. I have been here for 18 months. And have never been late on a load, and never had a service failure. And no log violations in that time. I feel I am a good driver and run when im out there. With last week getting 3100 miles so its not like im slacking or something...... So guess it is time to move on.

You should not work for a freight company.
Work for one of the manufacturers. I have never spent a 34 hour reset away from home. For that matter, I have never been gone for more than about 3 -4 days.
Manufacturers pay more, anyway.

As everyone has mentioned, TAH is not equal. I usually drop on a Friday but have to bobtail probably 200 miles on average. Because of lack of hours, I wont get home on Friday but Saturday. I just send a qualcomm stating that I'll be available on Monday morning at a certain time.

Any thought to going to a regional or LTL carrier? With 18 months of experience you should be able to get something decent.
