Default Blood Pressure/ Med card rules question

The way I understand the BP rule is this

140/90-160/100 range you get a 1yr card. At recertification, if its under 140/90 you recertify every year and if its 140/90-160/100, you get a 3 month card.

What happens after the 3 month card?
I know if its under 140/90 I get a year card, but if its between 140/90-160/100 do I have to recertify every 3 months?

What happens is this. The DOT doctor should have told you to go to your own doctor and find out why your bp is high.

Maybe you need some medication to help with getting it lower.

I have high bp and type 2 diabetes and I have no problem with passing the dot physical. You have to adjust your life style and take the meds that your md prescribes. Had my last dot physical on July 15th (yes, on Sunday) because my employer uses an emergency medical clinic for all physicals and they are open 7 days per week. Anyway, bp was 120 over 78, Hba1c level good, and all other stuff good so I got another year.

Thats all they will give now days for drivers who take bp meds and/or take diabetic meds. This is far as I know, in talking with other drivers.

It's also not your BP at the time of the physical. Mine was 120/80, but I was/am on BP meds, and I listed that on the form. If you are on meds you only get a 1 year certificate, regardless of what you BP reading was at the physical.

If it's 180/110 you have a certain amount of time to get it down or you have to switch to regular drivers license don't you?

Default BP

If it's 180/110 you have a certain amount of time to get it down or you have to switch to regular drivers license don't you? I don't think so. A medical card won't be issued.
BTW, if a BP is that high, it's God's way of saying change what is being done or He will.
When my BP was slightly higher than 140/90 my doc but me on BP meds. That reading used to be considered borderline hypertension, not so any more, the standard changed a few years ago. You should be treated for it when it's that high.
More exercising and losing weight may bring a person's readings under those, when I lost 20 pounds, my BP dropped 20 points. BOL

If your BP is still high after the 3 month period, assuming you are issued one, you will not be issued a medical certificate.

You can of course get one later if and when your BP lowers to an acceptable level.

My doctor made a mistake, she gave me 4 chances to pass the BP portion of the test, I am on meds too. Once i finally squeaked by she gave me a 2yr card. She even indicated on th elong form that I take BP meds. BTW, I am a week into my CDL A school!

In alll likelyhood (is that a word?) you will have to take the physical again when you are hired.
Walk 45 minutes a day.....that'll do it. Seriously. And the next time you go for a physical do your walk an hour or so before the physical; you'll sail through.
